@Arigato Cat Roses are red and violets are blue. Well that's what they say, but it just isn't true! Roses are red and apples are too, but violets are violet. Violets aren't blue.

Thank you SO much! I have been eagerly awaiting this one ever since you told me you'd filmed it. The look on Brian's face was priceless. I actually made myself one to drink while watching this. Thanks again, guys. To anyone having trouble finding Crème de Violette (which is not imported, at all, into PA), Crème Yvette is an acceptable substitution. It is much darker, bolder and less floral, but it does still have violets in it.

It's cool to see someone do a video on this drink. My uncle gave me a cocktail book for Christmas one year, and this was one of the drinks that caught my attention when I was flipping through the pages. I tried it out, and I've been a fan ever since. It's a nice drink when you want something a little citrusy, slightly floral, and just different.

My go-to prohibition cocktail! Definitely weird not seeing it being shaken and never had it with sugar - I always thought it to be gin heavy from the taste as well.
@arickbakken Жыл бұрын
You would not need to add sugar because the Maraschino balances the lemon perfectly. Maraschino is super sweet. There's no reason to add sugar other than to suppress the violet or just make a sweeter drink. And right, you don't see a stirred drink that has citrus. Every bartender should do their own version of what they think is best and classics can sometimes be improved. But also, lots of strange stuff here.

This is a spectacular Gin cocktail. I like No 3 Gin out of the U.K. There is a version without Creme de Violette but if you can find it, it is worth making the traditional version! Good Gin and good quality Vermouth - or in this case some Creme de Violette and Maraschino - is fabulous - people who think they don't like Gin usually have only had cheap Gin - and no one should have that!!! Use good quality ingredients! Spend a little extra and people will adore Gin!!!!!!!!!!

I had this on a cruise about ten years ago. It was a cloudy violet color and made me feel like I was in a 1950's cocktail lounge. Then I had one about a year ago and it was pink which was just so wrong that I just dismissed it as not being an Aviation. It's a very elusive cocktail and yes, the ingredients are hard to find. I'm pretty sure that I know where to get Creme d'Violette so I hope to make one before long.
@interqward16 жыл бұрын
"I don't get anything right away..." Because of the Indolic acid from the violets, which switches alternatively on, and off, and then on again, the olfactory receptors; but each time you sense the floral stimuli, it 'feels' fresh and brand new, and that's the point of using violets in anything, basically.
@ChristopherTradeshow3 жыл бұрын

Early versions of this cocktail actually didn't have any creme de violette, and so wouldn't have been blue. This is also supposed to be a shaken drink- most any drink with citrus should be shaken to aerate and incorporate the juice and the spirit. Close, but just a little off.
