Can you please tell me how much resin and hardner you used for the ash tray? I have this mold but have yet to make one cause I don’t want to waste any resin. And I want to make sure it cures. I can’t find an answer anywhere..thanks

I bought this same mold. I am using this to practice with resin. I will be making masks with resin soon. What type of resin do you use for this. Also to get like the skull and bones ancolor only and the rest a doff color like some of yours in the end. How do you do that? Paint the resin in with a brush then pour the other color? If so do you have a tutorial on that
@TherapeuticCreations3 жыл бұрын
I love playing with the moulds to get different effects and colours. Typically, I layer the resin using different colours each time, waiting a couple of hours in between each layer to make sure they don't blend together (unless that is the effect you are going for). Alternatively you can dust sections in different colours with mica powders. I hope this helps and good luck with the masks, that sounds fun 😊

I just got this mold about a week ago!! I plan to make it for being in use as an ashtray. So with that in mind, will I be able to still use micas, alcohol inks, and / or epoxy dyes and glitters into the resin mixture? I appreciate it if anyone knows and can help. Thank you so much! Btw- very beautiful result!! I hope mine comes out as great as yours, even just 1/4 as good I’d be ok with!!

How long do you let the filled mold stand to completely dry and harden
@TherapeuticCreations3 жыл бұрын
I am usually able to demould the following day but to fully harden I will leave a good 72 hours.
@darok21654 жыл бұрын
Did you wet the brush before applying the powder?
@TherapeuticCreations4 жыл бұрын
No, I do not wet the brush. I put a dry brush straight into the powder and on to the mould. A wet brush wouldn't spread the powder well and I would not want to wet the mould.

I have the same mold. Done several already. I want to try to make 1 look realistic. Would I be able to just dust the bones and flames the right color then pour clear?
@TherapeuticCreations4 жыл бұрын
Shelby Smith Yes you would. I have completed one with a thick layer of clear and dusted skulls, it turned out great 😊 In saying that the powders do look better with a colour behind them. The clear will work but it probably won’t have the colour vibrancy you get using colour in your resin...I hope that makes sense
@shelbysmith49484 жыл бұрын
@@TherapeuticCreations makes perfect sense. So with the mold inside out, bones dusted white, flames partial dusted red, glow in the dark blue dyed resin in the flame tips, turn right side out and pour transparent orange is my plan. Oh, and LEDs. I know I'll want the bones more opaque and the flames more transparent. Please give me a tip for getting bones more opaque

Can you use paint instead
@TherapeuticCreations3 жыл бұрын
I have not used paint on the mould just in the resin to colour it but, it might work. I would say the biggest hurdle with painting the mould is ensuring the paint layer is thin enough to grasp the resin and it fully covers the mould, does that make sense?
@Kathleen.jburns17384 жыл бұрын
Where do you get the white powder and why did you mix mica and the paint together it was awesome
@TherapeuticCreations4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much :) The white powder is a holographic mica powder and should be in my amazon shop, the link is in the video description if it helps. I use mica and colourant as personally I prefer it. I usually want my colours to be opaque and the mica powder gives a nice shimmer to the coloured resin

I poured my very first one and some of the fire tips weren't there and entire ashtray was full of bubbles..
@TherapeuticCreations2 жыл бұрын
I also found this out the hard way. It's a good idea to layer this one and build up the resin. I found using a stylus (with a rounded tip) helps work out the stubborn bubbles or by gently tapping on the mold it often encourages bubbles to the top 😊

Cool stuff, but your respirator is basically a dust filter, which is doing you no good at all. You need organic vapor filters when working with resin. They're well worth the price. For those viewers who don't know yet, resin is dangerous!
