I seem to have had a run on making a variety of seat cushions these past months.
I have been in the upholstery and interior decorating business for over 25 years, as well as teaching these subjects both privately and in colleges. I have drawn on my years of teaching to put this video together and hope to have answered all your questions.
Please feel free to ask questions and I shall try to answer them.
Give those old cushions an update.

Do you have a video of you doing the gusset part on the final fabric? I'm assuming it's not patterned?

Thank you for the question. This fabric wasn't patterned so I didn't have to worry about pattern matching. I found the following video which should show you how to pattern match for a seat cushion. I had to search a bit for it, so let me know if it doesn't quite answer your questions. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mabXk4GkpcydgMU Good luck with your project.

@@beinspired1487 Thanks for the reply! So I know it will be easier to do a full siding type gusset (with or without the piping), but I was thinking specifically of the patch type gusset which you use on the internal corner with the wadding at 4.50 in this video. Whether that might work for final fabric finish? I can sort of imagine it in my head, and the benefit is that I don't really want a seam on the front edge where the top meets the side. But i think i might just have to give it a try and see if it looks rubbish!

@@LouiseAmy0502 I looked through the list of videos and found this one that might also be of use to you. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3qkmZR_mMaAaJo If I do not use piping I will top stitch the gusset seem into position either onto the top or side of the cushion as this help to keep everything in place. Good Luck with you project.

Is there a weight or density # for the foam for Cushions... and what is the name of the soft thinner cushion you use on the top and bottom?

Thank you for your question. I order my foam from The Foam Store here in Houston and when I place the order I just list either extra firm, medium, or super soft. I think they have kept it simple as there are various ways of ordering and many people who use that shop are not necessarily in the interior decorating business. For my seat cushions, I use the extra firm for the center, then add a 1"/2cm layer on each side of the super soft which I wrap in thick dacron. So far my clients have been really pleased with this combination. Good luck with your project.

Thank you for your question. I order my foam from The Foam Store. I think it is a franchise as there seem to be a number of them throughout the US. Maybe look online a find a place that specializes in foam so you have multiple options, as fabric/hobby stores usually only have one kind of foam and it is quite overpriced for the quality. Good luck with your project.

Hello! I was asked to make an L shaped bench cushion. I was curious.. can I use this same technique to make the L shape into one large cushion? Or is it better to make 2 separate cushions? Thank you
@beinspired1487
@beinspired1487 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question. Personally, I would do it in two separate parts as the cushions could be turned over and used the other way up if needed. Not only that, it would be easier to fill with the foam as the seat cushion would be more stable. Try to make the two-section look equal in size. So take the smaller part of the L into the corner and butt the longer part of the L up to it. Also, make a template just in case there is anything you need to take into consideration. I had one recently that had to fit under a window sill, I made sure the foam was no higher than the underside then the dacron and fabric were not too pressed down to look squashed into place. Good luck with your project.

Hi what's the name of the spray?
@beinspired1487
@beinspired1487 3 жыл бұрын
I prefer to use the 3M spray-on glue when I am gluing foam together, use it quite liberally as you need the glue the pieces to hold together so you can move them around and not lose them and have to start again. You can buy it at craft and automotive stores as well as Walmart. Believe it or not, Gorilla Glue just doesn't seem to do so well, also some of the automotive glues are not up to the job either. I have no idea what they use in the industry as sometimes when I pull foams apart can be quite a chore as they seem to be really well fused together.
