@T Lynch you never take items from the area your hide is in, always from the area you're moving through. Most military ghillie suits have no need to put materials on the chest or front of the trousers, they're just going to fall off and potentially give you away. Most of the time you're staking you are prone, so that is why material on the back of your clothing is more important.
@dostthouevenlogicbrethren17395 жыл бұрын
shadows move as the sun does. Snipers don't. Your best bet is making your own ghillie that isn't so bulky it increases your silhouette and then lying prone using the natural terrain to your advantage. Hills, mounds, and other actual earth to get behind, as well as bushes are key.

A good idea to really break up your silhouette is to find a 2 piece canvas tent from a military surplus store, (you only need 1 part of it), cut a hole for your head in the center of it so that you essentially wear it like a poncho(or you could just use a canvas poncho like I did but good luck in finding one of those cheap...I found mine for $7 at a flea market) and then do the rest kinda like Jason's though there's a vital part that you missed....the obligatory mud roll. Yep, on a good rainy day(or when you have a good mud puddle when it's not rainy) you take your suit out and roll in the mud with it. If you're doing it on when it's dry but you have mud, you can then go find a pile of grass and sticks and roll in it. Let it dry and break up some of the clumps and you'll have something that'll be so hard to see that you will be completely surprised. Also, you can wet down baking soda and put it all over your suit to make it more fire retardant. Baking soda will give off CO2 when it reaches a certain temp and it'll kill a fire pretty fast. That said, the mud will help with the fire retardant aspect as well.

I built my first Ghillie suit back in 1992, I weighed 215 pounds at 6’5”, now I am pushing 260, the Ghillie suit doesn’t cover as much any more, but It still works for coyote hunting. I used army surplus BDUs, about them a few sizes bigger, I got some cargo net I stitched to the BDUs, and then spent days tying burlap to the netting. Then I went down to the local laundromat and put them in the dryer, because I didn’t want to run my laundry machines. This teased the burlap stringers and caused them to, for lack of a better word, tease like dreadlocks. The first thing I do when I go to a hunt, is grab whatever debris is on the ground and throw it on the suit. It adds to the local flora.

Roderick storey Yeah that's what I think would be the case as well , the materials used in Jason's suit are more likely to catch fire if small sparks or flame touches it but the layers underneath are relatively safe unlike if Brian's suit were to catch fire it be melting plastics all over his body and it's harder to quell the fire as well in that case

typically with the shop bought one you'd still put your own materials in it. Snipers will take a base colored suit and at their sniping location thread in their own fauna. They turn up hours before whatever they're there for and set their suit up, They get little sowing kits as well to kind of stitch in the grasses if they needed to. Same with their gun, covering it with grasses. Not only this but they did the same thing to their surroundings and landscaped it to mask them even more

So a little add on to the show. If you buy burlap and strip the jute out yourself it is generally cheaper. Stripping jute is a pain in the ass though. Also you don't keep the local vegetation on the suit after your op is done. You 'veg' when you get out into the field, so it looks perfectly natural to where you are, and you pick a spot based on what you used. If you used a bunch of hemlock then bush into a hemlock grove. If you used lots of grass be prone in an area with grass. When you are finished with whatever you are doing in the field, say paintball, airsoft, hunting, or the actual military, you strip that plant matter out before packing your bags. Also an upgrade on making one yourself, start with a camouflage base, like some old BDU's or something from your local army navy store, then cut out most of the back and up to the shoulders, and sew the fishnet on there, makes some breathing area, which helps save on the warmth of the suit, as they are hot af. If you don't want to sew use shoe glue or other fabric glues. The jute layers should overlap vertically downward, for complete coverage, use the jute to tie the plant matter in, don't tie the plants to the jute like Brian did.

I used to play airsoft all the time in a ghillie suit. Whereas at first you would think it's only good for sitting in one place and sniping, it turns out that if you're playing in the woods, it's also amazing for surprise assaults with like an M4 or something. The key is to buy an extra ghillie suit headpiece and slip it over your gun with a hole for your muzzle and sight (also, paint over the orange tip of your muzzle, check local laws to see if this is illegal), so no part of you or your equipment isn't camouflaged. I've talked to people I've played against, and they've said that, in the heat of the moment, the only way they could tell where I was was by what direction my BBs were hitting them at, and at that point it was too late. I miss those days.

Making a ghillie suit from scratch is time consuming and expensive, it's better to start with a cheap one and replace/add local flora.

Or you could look online for one that looks like local flora instead

Lightweight leaf suits could be much more effective if you were in the woods, especially during fall.

Some tips how to use and make a Ghillie Suit. 1:You don't need to buy extra cloths, you can make your own with a small saw, knife, cordage and small branches. Weave it like a cape and it will instantly match the environment. 2: Drag the suit in the dirt and make it match the dirt around you. 3:Lastly lay down behind cover. This will reduce and hide your silhouette.

I have made several homemade Ghillie suits, My first one that I made look a lot like Jason. Add burlap strip and mix color of jute, The crafting material that looks like dead grass is loud and crinkly. Ghillie suits are also suppose help reduce noise as well. Second use more grass both alive and dead in to the suit. Also use branches and shrubs To. Then get your self a good face mask and good airsoft rifle and have a blast

I like to imagine this specifically became a modern rogue tradition where every other week, they go out into the property for a game of man hunt where the crew and Brian/Jason go out to try and find the other host.
