Another amazing video, thanks for sharing! I went through a lot of drama to just figure out this complex medical system. I was discouraged to ask questions, one doc told me why are you asking so many questions and I started doubting myself, should I not ask?.How do you think doctors and patients can form effective partnership? knowing the complex healthcare system and also some doctors don't care about partnership at all? I am sure there is no one way! any thoughts?

Farah Faruqi thank you for sharing your experience here! I think there needs to be more open dialogue involving patients about these areas of frustration for sure. It’s not something the US healthcare system is accustomed to doing!

Having someone with you that you trust during a consultation can be very useful. Especially when there is a lot of new information. My friend who is an OR assistant went with me to my pre WLS checkups and I was so glad to have her there. She asked questions I did not think of but which made the process easier in the end.

great suggestions! Here are a few more. 1. Bring your insurance card and picture ID. 2. Bring a means of paying the co-pay. Many docs expect it at time of service. 3. Particularly if elderly, bring a sweater or light covering. Most offices have cold AC. 4. Bring the power cord to your phone as you may need to wait. 5. Don't bring a list of 10 questions. Most of the time, the doc is really in a hurry and you need to focus on the 1 - 3 (at most) priorities. It isn't fair to make an appointment for a sore throat and then mention your insomnia, GERD, and other issues. 6. Get there early enough to fill out the paperwork. The reality (for me) is that no one reads it but you have to fill it out. Better yet, if your can, do it online. 7. Bring the name, phone #, address, and fax # of all current doctors. My experience is that docs usually don't consult one another, but sometimes they do. 8. If at all possible, don't bring your kids. Thanks!!

My grandmother and great uncle both died of abrupt, random, abdominal aneurisms. Pretty scary.

From experience if epilepsy or migraines I re-read my diary day before doctors appointment and then make notes of any days I had seizures, headaches, any odd random symptoms as I usually write nonsense like that down in my diary as it’s probably impacted what I’ve done that day. Doc can see if there’s a pattern.

I would be interested a video about redundant colon, extra loopy colon and floppy colon. Do these things impact a colonoscopy? How do these impact colon health? Love your channel.

I never know how expansive that family history I give should be. I have a large close knit family & can spout illnesses for about 3 generations in all directions (Example- mention mom & nana’s breast cancer, check. But do they need to know about the 2 living uncles on the same family twig that had prostate cancer?) would you have a rule of thumb for that?
