I live in a 1913 house and the main floor homes a daycare to 13 kids....recently I cleaned up the basement so we could do fun messy art with the kids down there. My entire upper level is my creative space...I have stations for my many hobbies....plus my bed. I am single so it's a nice luxury. I love the fact that if I want to use my sewing machine, or die cutter, or paint...or whatever I feel like exploring is at the ready. It's necessary for creative people to feed their souls. I spent a lot of years daydreaming about doing creative things. I think you should do what is necessary to feed your creativity soul. Maybe you could brighten up the bases with white drop cloths tacked to the wall. Or white canvas to brighten things up. Just go for it! You are worth it.❤❤

Thanks for sharing the video and the various updates with us all. Hubby is doing a great job on that greenhouse - I used to have one when I lived in England and kept all my relatives supplied with freshly picked tomatoes throughout the summer. Since I moved to Florida, I just grow a few tomato plants on the back porch. That basement has plenty of character and with some improvements (a few people have mentioned hanging tapestries for warmth and colour) it could be a very nice hideaway for some of your projects. Glad to hear you're taking some time to think about mental health issues. It's a continuing tough time for you, and you definitely need to set aside enough 'Amy-time' to chill & relax or get busy (or whatever takes your fancy!) and get away from all the 'have to do this, have to do that' stuff that can easily become so oppressive. I hope the post-surgery recovery continues to go well for you, as you gradually start to get back to normal. Take care - kind regards, Brian.

Hullo Amy, I am not sure about working in a dungeon! I must have light to be happy. I believe you can have several places to work and if moving most of your supplies to the "basement studio" and keep an easel in the filming or working space. I know it is harder to keep moving projects back and forth, but not having everything at hand so to speak can make creating more difficult, but possible. If you need more storage space you can learn to live with anything. I wish you the best and only good things going forward. Please take your time and heal as slowly as you need to. Be safe and take care.

Hi, I just discovered you and your Winter Woods Studio a few weeks ago when you were opening some bags of Temu items and I've been following you ever since. I really appreciate everything I have learned from you and have tremendously enjoyed your Multi-Media presentations. Now that I have seen some of your artwork I am amazed at your talent as well as what you film for KZbin. You are very knowledgeable and entertaining to watch. I really enjoy what you reveal about your personal life as well. I am sad that your arm was hurt and that you are having to recover from surgery w/o pain medicine. I am facing major surgery on April 30 so I appreciate your attitude and endurance. I love your basement space! Continued wishes and prayers for less pain and continued healing as you recover. Listen to your son!! There's an old phrase that has some truth: "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." ❤️🙏

You have been going thru a lot but are clearly making the best of the situation. It is so difficult to maintain the fun in an art or hobby once it becomes a business. Your son is absolutely right...do something now and then that is solely for your own enjoyment. Take good care. 🙂

I can't believe he noticed and I didn't! I know I have yo do a better job at taking care of my own needs and not putting everyone else first but it's hard! And yes, you are so right about the fun slowly disappearing when it's a business. Something foe me to think about for sure! Thank you for watching and leaving a comment, Susan!

Hi Amy, love your art! Have you ever thought about doing adult coloring pages? I am a jewelry maker and do art as a hobby. Get that jewelry studio up, you can esily add fans and heaters for good air curcilation. I enjoy adult coloring to undwind, I still need to be creative and do something with my hands other then jewelry. Just pick a color and go.. I think your pen and ink illistrations are a perfect fit for adult coloring pages, could be a good income stream. Hope you heal quickly!!

Two for the price of one - use the old fashioned solution to drab stone walls while having some fun creation time and get making tapestries. Could be weaving, knitting, cross stitch etc and you get the chance to build stories around you

Thank you for the lovely comment, Laura! I appreciate it so much! I am so glad someone appreciates the honesty thing. One of my biggest goals when I started this channel was to be honest and transparent because I feel like to many channels hide the harder things in life. I felt like too many people were comparing themselves to these perfect lives and it was hurting people. Life is hard and not perfect and we should be here to share that and support each other! Thank you for taking the time to watch!

Glad you're improving, bit by bit. I tried to keep focused on the specific things thlat were better than the week before, when I was dealing with various cancer treatments and both knee replacements. It helps a lot, since you can only 'focus ' on one thing at a time, so best to keep your aura as fluffed as possible. That said, I can't imagine how its been for you without pain meds. You're so brave to deal with all this stuff. Ive got a basement/ dungeon with a small studio space too. It's different from yours, but totally not pretty. Still in process, but I can get down there and worK on messy things. I'll be hanging shower curtains from the beams so i don't have to look at the surrounding chaos, can get my beach or mountain view on that way, which I miss here in Kansas. Lighting can be pretty cheap if you get your handy husband to install lightbulb fixtures along boards and use the light bulbs that adjust temp and intensity for overhead lighting. I've got no windows near me, but i got a cheap plant light with several flexible arms on amazon so i can keep a few plants down there to keep it friendlier feeling. Wishing you all the best! Hi Amy. I loved this video, especially the sneak peek into your jewellery making set up. (Nice Foredom! ❤) I've done some jewellery making and a little silversmithing and enamelling in the past but it isn't easy/practical/healthy to do much in my small flat. I'd love to see some of your work. Have you looked into more traditional paints? While "modern" paints etc are no go for your basement, there are absolutely breathable options for example limewash / whitewash etc. Lime based paints give a different kind of finish (and need applying slightly differently), but they look beautiful and come in various colours. Look into paints suitable for more historical / period type buildings as they need to breathe!

Amy, do what you can, not what you should. Have fun. You are still healing from major surgery, and health complications making things more difficult (painful), so please go easy on yourself. It's easy for me to say, but I've made the mistake of overdoing things, to further detriment of my health. The people who care for you will still be here. I'd love to see some of your digital art process and your jewellery. Liz ❤️

I'm trying not to overdo things but it is SO hard to be so dependant on everyone for help. Other than the pain, that's the biggest struggle for me. I can't even put my hair in a ponytail! So if I forget to have my husband or son do it in the morning, I'm out of luck until the end if the day! I know that's a minor thing. But I am really not good at taking help... I'm working on it! Thanks for the reminder!

Amy I’m so impressed with how you are doing after only such a short time after your surgery. Please take care of yourself. I’m very interested in your digital artwork and jewelry making. I am 3 weeks away from my shoulder surgery and wondering how you managed to get your shirts on and off lol. I’m having trouble now and this is before the surgery. Was thinking about getting button down shirts for easy access. Also planning on finally learning procreate since I can’t be without art and 2 hands are needed for most mediums. 💜🧡💜

Out of the mouths of babes, your son is very observant and obviously loves his mum. You could do painting you just need a hand with set up and clean up. A stays wet palette for acrylics will really help and a table top easel that holds your canvas in place top and bottom just make sure the canvas is not to large

I love your basement! So euro-cottage. I think it's all about the lighting. For general lighting, fluorescent lights are no bueno in a basement...too cold. But I love warm track lights to highlight textures. Textures on the walls, in the fabrics, the art pieces. Yes a 1,000 times, yes!

I love basements! Your basement is cozy. The older the better. So glad you are feeling better. The greenhouse is coming right along. The plants will thrive in there. Also I know what you mean about doing more textile type of crafts. I have done those things my entire life. I need to split some of my time up for that as well. Both of my parents were textile artists. They were always making things with their hands. That is exactly where I get it from. My Dad also loved to draw cars.
