I used to be licensed in massage therapy. This is very informative. This inspires me to get my own cottonwood/poplar buds and make my own salve as I have torn rotators on both cuffs; dermatitis (I found out that it helps with skin irritations as well). Thank$ a million!

I use coffee filters to strain my oils. I found it strains better than cheese cloth and its cheaper and easier to find. I just strain a little at a time.

I'm curious why the salve is green. My mum made this every year and it was always a deep cranberry red. Does it depend on the type of tree? Also, she would dry the buds before infusing them - but it appears you pick them and infuse right away? I should have been a more observant teenager and watched my mum's method. The aroma of this salve is heavenly!
@123loveyourland2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lindsay… It depends on the type of oil you are using. In my case, I used olive oil which made it appear a greenish color.

@@123loveyourland thank you! My mom has been gone 16 years now. And I retrieved the infused oil that she had in jars after she passed away. I have been slowly adding beeswax to small portions of the infused oil and making them into little pots of salve. I am amazed that after 16 years the infused oil is as fresh and aromatic as ever!

I have deep red salve that I made with olive oil. And also golden colored salve. The difference was that I used winter buds vs spring buds.

Thank you I am making this right now and very excited! When should the buds sink down in the oil? Mine are currently floating - thanks!
@123loveyourland9 ай бұрын
Hi there! They don’t “need” to sink. Floating is fine. The only goal with heating them with the oil is to infuse the oil with the cottonwood bud resin. :) Happy balm making!

@@123loveyourland Thanks! I'm finishing mine up now and my next question is how do you clean your crockpot after it had beeswax in it?
@123loveyourland9 ай бұрын
Rewarm it (just warm, not hot or you’ll burn yourself), then wipe it out with paper towel until all of the beeswax is removed. Then you can take another paper towel and put rubbing alcohol on it and wipe it out again and that will remove the residue. Then I would wash the crockpot with a dish soap like dawn. Next time, you can get those crockpot liners and avoid all of these steps. :)

HI great Video. I was wondering why cant use buds that are blooming and covering in red sticky stuff ? its seems the same stuff as the buds just they are bigger with the buds opening ? thanks
@123loveyourland8 ай бұрын
Hi Angie! I honestly don’t recall all of the exact reasons, but I know you don’t want the innards of the buds in your salve. Only the resin. I’m sure you could filter out any unwanted parts and pieces though. :)
@KittenBowl14 жыл бұрын
It was nice to see the real buds on branches. Thank you for sharing. I have dried version as I don’t want moisture. Just about to make infused oil. Btw, you should always measure materials in weight and not volume (grams and ounces rather than liters and table spoons) as volume is quite inaccurate. Regardless good tips. Thanks!

Amazing video. What microbial elements are in the tea tree oil? Do you mean the plant compounds, or actual microbes?

Came across this on ebay while looking for yogurt cultures. I never heard of it, but I live where there is cottonwoods. Someone told me they are part of the willow family so I'm assuming they have the aspirin derived properties in it. Does this work better as a muscle rub, or do you use it for all ailments?

While Cottonwood (Populus deltoides) is a good medicinal plant, it is not the true Balm of Gilead (Cedronella canariensis), a more rare plant from Israel, Africa, and the Canary Islands.
