Hi - just a question about the dark water - I test my Betta tank water regularly and glad to say the pH level is always around 7 - which I am told is right for him. Have a blue/green crown tail. Now if I were to add dark water for the healing properties would I not then also mess up my pH levels?? I have no wood in the tank just an anubius and a couple of moss balls and some stones with black sand substrate. Checking in from Scotland by the way!!!! Watched a lot of your videos before setting up my tank, getting it cycled and then adding my fish.... great help thanks. cheers Kay

Mines coming in now! I’ll update you on how it effects my ph levels. Mine are a lil high rn and im getting it to lower my ph. Also I’m pretty sure it only lowers the ph because it releases tannic acid, tannins and other substances into your aquarium. As the tannic acid is released, it lowers the pH of your water. So if you have good water perimeters and your ph is staying at 7 I wouldn’t change what you’re doing (: especially if your water isn’t super hard like mine because it could lower your ph to 5.

I went to the store about a month ago and brought home, Mr. Spangled, a red, white, and blue beauty. He's doing great in his Aqueon 2.5 gallon tank. But I went back to Petco last week to get a bottle of the Fritz clear betta water just to have on hand for when it's time to change his water out. The girl working there really talked the product down and told me that since I already had the water conditioner, to just use that and regular water. She also said that I would have to use some water conditioner in the Fritz betta water anyway and basically told me to save my money. I had done some research on the product before I went to buy some though and read that it's great for stress and bettas' health in general. Soooo now I'm confused because you make it sound great, but she made it sound like a gimmick.

If I live within driving distance to you (about 2 1/2 hrs), would I be able to pick up a betta in person rather than having it shipped? I figure with a 5 gallon bucket or large Rubbermaid container and a USB air pump it would be less stressful for the fish (and MUCH faster) to just drive up and get one. I don't know who you ship thru, but postal and FedEx have been a nightmare around here... FedEx especially - they lost one package for almost a month and a half before they finally found it and they've marked lots of items as out for delivery but instead left them out in their loading yard without putting them on any trucks and they didn't actually go out for delivery until days later (our local news even covered it). UPS is the only shipper I trust anymore.

sairvinginthestacks does peat and tannins reduce ph? I live in the area with soft water, so I am afraid to use anything that can take ph down.
@sairvinginthestacks4 жыл бұрын
@@vg7985 the peat does reduce my pH. Out of the faucet, the pH is 8.4. The peat drops it down to 8.0. I think tannins can reduce pH but I'm not sure by how much. I use the peat granules to help with my very hard water too. My GH is 425 out of tap. You could always pick up some rioboos tea, brew it, and dilute a bit in tap water. Test the mixture a few days later and see if the pH dropped. Tea produces tannins, especially if you steep it too long. That's why teabags and over steeped loose tea taste bitter.

I am planning on getting a 3 gallon tank to put it in and I was curious how much do you put in each time you do a water change. Do you dump the whole bottle in or just a cup of it? I'm only 15 and an amateur fish keeper and wanted to make keeping a Betta easier, just like what you said. Also how often do you suggest I do a water change? I will definitely use the bio balls and the coarse sponge in the filter instead of cartridges. Big money saver there!

@@4chappels you can try to give him shrimp and omelette, or a cooked chicken. they give much energy to fish and gorgeous fins. you take a raw shrimp, put it in cold water for one hour. Then you chop it with a knife to very fine pieces. you give very little to your betta and the rest you freeze. for omelette you take one egg, add two tablespoons of water, mix it, pour in a cup and steam or microwave. then you squeeze it through a sieve two times. spread on a flat surface (plastic bag on a plate) and freeze. you take a very small piece of chicken, cook it in water for 3 minutes, turn the heat off and let it sit for 30 minutes. then you chop it or blend to very fine pieces. spread on a flat surface and freeze. it he could eat this, would be very good for him. just do not overfeed. in betta farms they feed babies with live red daphnia and omelette.

Those small tanks are the temporary pre-shipping containers for the juveniles. Take a look at Simply Betta, she had skinny Alfredo sauce size jars that her juveniles would be in prior to shipping (I don't know if she uses them now). The mating pairs and the fry will be in much bigger tanks. But due to the number of tanks required to temporarily house the juveniles once they're ready to sell, there's no way to do that with 5 gallon tanks... That just takes up too much space. One mating can generate 20 - 50 fry, and they would probably have multiple groups of fry at a time, by the time they're ready to sell, probably half of them will be the right size at the same time. So that would be a LOT of tanks. Look at the rack display that Aquarium Co-op has for their bettas, I think each container was between a half gallon to a gallon. Again, these are very temporary and when they're smaller juveniles (like tiny plecos or goldfish in those 20 gallon tanks at Petsmart). Those containers are still much larger than the cups you find them in at the big box stores and are about the size my LFS uses (except theirs have lids and they have them connected to an automatic drip setup).

What size is the tank
@nicolero81304 жыл бұрын
you will probably keep tank mates with your angels. Start your aquarium with the mates first, after a couple of month you can add angel fishes. The mates can be danio, neons, ternetzi (tetra), rainbowfish, mollies, gourami and catfish: cory, bristlenose catfish.

in our country we don't use those kinds of chemicals, Indian almond leaves are native here in the Philippines 🇵🇭 and you would be amaze how beautiful our bettas.
@nicolero81304 жыл бұрын
in your country bettas survive in farms in terrible conditions. Not only the chemicals are not used, but the fresh water is used sparingly
