Muzammil bhai you are on point on this analysis. I am a business graduate and started my startup back in 2017 when plan 9 and planx were there initial stages. I saw 300 startups failing where many factors which you already mentioned in this video. You were right that selection of right startup is and was a big problem. I have to move out from the industry forcefully in 2019 as I was not seeing any future because of lack of talent or groomed talent. No one accepted my idea including ceo’s of big companies. Just because I was tapping in there zone which they were trying to achieve which eventually leads my failure. The other thing which you didn’t mentioned in your video is our love for foreign startups or companies. People in pakistan don’t support local business at all they are very indusive to the fact that its foreign company which will provide good service. It is true in most of the cases because everyone in business community are hear to make money instead of providing good service and making money as a by product. This problem is in every business area whether its education, property or any upper level business. At last I just wanted to say that startups are not a solution unless you build your talent at that level.

You're right bro, i think Pakistan is the market where you need to be patient, smart and intelligent 🧠 before thinking to solve any problem through your startup. I think NayaPay is the big example ke woh launch huwa hai 2021 main and gradually woh scale karta ja raha hai Fintech Market main just because ke their administration is innovative and patient, jabke jaldi jaldi main kai bare players bhi chakna choor ho jaate hain Pakistan main.

Same scenario happened with me. I am a freelancer and wanted to start my own company and for that I went to an incubation center at my university to allocate me some space where I can train few students and then start my services company as I have already been doing freelancing. The answer I got from the incubation center was that we don't want conventional software house and we don't allocate space for conventional software house and when I saw all the start-up there none of them had strong fundamentals and all they were doing was just somehow increase the evaluation.

After working closely with retailo and seeing many more startups in the ecosystem, the core problem is they arent ran as businesses for profit but rather increasing shareholder value. Which leads to a mindset that you can spend millions on experimental items that only generate profit at multi million dollar revenue values and you attempt to reach that point. Explosive growth and explosive crashes are common when business profit isnt the bottomline.

10:05 you are correct figuratively but, buying instances from cloud service providers such as AWS or gcs for a 100 people and a 100 million people is vastly different. It's a given that the latter will cost a lot lot more.
@muzamilahmed3127
@muzamilahmed3127 Ай бұрын
He's not talking only about AWS cost. There are other costs involved as well. You don't have to create another app/website to serve another 10M people. You also don't need to hire 1000 more employees to serve next 10M people. And if you only talk about cloud service, it cost grows linearly in most cases (e.g. if you're spending $10,000 for 1M people, for 10M people, the cost will be $100,000). But as I said earlier, this is only cloud cost. Other costs will not grow linearly. Let's take example of an EdTech startup vs Education SME.. If I want to teach 1000 students, I've to record the lecture once. I'll have to pay to the teacher only once (or some commission base for every sale). If I want to scale to 1M students, I don't have to record the lectures again (this cost will be reduced). I'll only have to pay for the cloud services (if I'm using any).. BUT If I want to teach 1000 students using offline physical method. For every 100 students, I've to hire 1 teacher. So, for 1000 students, I'll hire 10 teachers. Now If I want to grow to 1M students, I've to hire 10,000 teachers (which will cost a lot more). Also considering other factors like place rent, utility bills and other operational cost.

A start up, by Global standards, is a highly scale able business which doesn't need huge costs. Pakistan needs to rethink its governance model, it is highly unlikely that a start up can scale (it can launch but it wont work) with the current setup. Pakistan needs to restructure its governance structure. Whilst that structure worked in the past, it is now stuck in a debt trap. Until structural changes are implemented, it is unlikely that we will have startups

I understand your analogy of growth just for the sake of growth in order to raise more capital and eventually sell out the business at even a higher value. But somewhere down the line someone has to take the brunt of the burnout or losses. I support growth at a certain level of profitability, even if the profit is just 1%. I do not support growth by making losses, instead grow healthy, meaning profitably. A time comes in a business when beyond a certain level of growth, growth is not necessary. Startups need to keep in mind the ROI and Volume of Profit. Beyond a certain level of growth, ROI may start declining while Volume of Profit may still be increasing. There are many other factors to be considered too, such as growth from a fear of a competitor growing who may phase you out and so on.
