I’m so happy I found your channel! I am an aspiring sculptor who works with resin as well and your videos are so great to learn from! I want to start sanding my pieces so they look as smooth as yours. Could I ask what kind of grit you use? And do you use sanding sponges?
@fairiesandfancies7 ай бұрын
Thank you! I use all sorts of sand paper, I think it depends on what you’re sanding what sand paper you should use. I usually use at least three grits (some of my faves are 250, 400 and 800 grit as my finisher). Sanding sponges are great and you just reminded me I need to get some badly! 😂 I love the really soft thin pliable sanding sponges.

Adorable Calcifer and tutorial!! Definitely learned some things here! Am curious, do you ever reuse your silicone molds or is moreso a onetime use after you’ve sculpted from clay?
@fairiesandfancies7 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! Silicones molds should all be reusable, but a lot of things can determine how many times you can reuse it. Like the item you molded, the kind of silicone you’re using, if you use mold release etc. I use my silicone molds many times to make multiple resin casts. Once the mold starts breaking down I can throw it out and use a good cast I previously kept or the original model to make more molds for casting. Hope this makes sense

This is so cool! Trying it at the moment, all of my details get mushed and dissapear whilst i'm holding it.....very frustrating but i'll persevere. :) Thank you for sharing this.
@fairiesandfancies6 ай бұрын
You could try using sculpey firm, which has a firmer texture. You could also set the clay down for a bit, sometimes the warmth from handling a piece a lot can cause the clay to soften. Some people even put their pieces in the fridge to harden them up. With practice you learn to hold pieces better, but we all smoosh details sometimes (it’s so annoying).
@calvb83496 ай бұрын
@@fairiesandfancies Thank you for the tips, much appreciated. My girlfriend was a Fimo demonstrator and sculptor for many years, but she has Fibromyalgia and it hurts too much to do it any more....plus the Fimo has changed quite a bit....I will definitely give the Sculpey a try though. Thank you.

Wow so I hadn't seen any of your videos before, and this video was so much better than I expected when I saw the thumbnail. @@fairiesandfancies What lens? Fellow sculptuber here, I also use a canon rebel, but t7i. I often just find it more trouble than it's worth. Either the camera is in the way because it's so bulky or my hand is blocking the shot because the focal length is a challenge. We have peers that do amazing work with just an iphone so it's a bit frustrating. I really love your framing in this, I might want to pick up that lens if its not a thousand dollars.

@fairiesandfancies7 ай бұрын
I have two, the smaller gray one is a converted pressure pot (from harbor freight) for painting that I converted to be a pressure pot. The big blue one was sold as a resin pressure pot and didn’t need to be modified. It all depends on what you want for your needs, what size you want and cost.

So I’ve been using sculpey for years and I can still never get that smoothness right when blending I always end up with little curly runaways and it never squishes like others do I think it’s mainly cause I still don’t prep the clay enough even when I knead it for 20 minutes. Either that or I keep buying out of date clay haha
@fairiesandfancies7 ай бұрын
It could be a lot of things. I don’t condition my clay that long. It could be it’s too warm. Maybe trying new tools could help or using the clay softener at the end along with sanding after baking can help.
