Elderberry Syrup Recipe: homesteadingfamily.com/homema...
*Add1/4c gelatin per cup of hot syrup to make gummies, refrigerate in molds or cookie sheet/lipped pan overnight to set. Refrigerate syrup/gummies for up to 6 months. Canning the syrup will make it shelf stable for many years as long as the seal remains intact.*
(Dosages below were snagged from the blog/recipe above)
How Much Elderberry Syrup Should I Take?
Wondering what is the dosage of elderberry syrup? My preferred dosage for daily immune support during cold and flu season is as follows:
Adults take 1 teaspoon daily.
Kids (6-12 years old) take 1 teaspoon daily.
Kids (1-5 years old) take ½ teaspoon daily.
My preferred dosage when fighting off illness (until symptoms subside) is as follows:
Adults take 1 teaspoon up to 1 Tablespoon every 2-3 hours.
Kids (6-12 years old) take 1 teaspoon every 2-3 hours.
Kids (1-5 years old) take ½ teaspoon every 2-3 hours.
* Not recommended for kids 1-year-old and under if honey is used. (See non-honey recommendations below.)

What a FANTASTIC start to the first day of the week! Thank you Heather for posting this video. That elderberry tea coloring is rich, vibrant, and beautiful! I don't know if it could be used to permanently color yarn or natural fabric, but I imagine it could - I know it certainly stains quite easily... Although, who would want to spend such a precious harvest on something to wear (or look at) rather than ingest for its great benefits? I would certainly have to have SUCH an enormous harvest glut to justify using it in that way! The only question I have is if the gummies you made might become too soft (and maybe sticky) sitting at room temperature? Would also be interested to see if you freeze dry any of them - I have seen people freeze-dry gummy bears and they GROW!

I plan to refrigerate the gummies but a few could be left out as an experiment for sure! One reason I think the berries could be used as a dye is we got all of this off of ONE plant this year and we have seven elderberry bushes (small) around! So I assume there will be excess abundance to play with in the future :)

Lovely! I use organic dried Elderberries for syrup, because I no longer have my own land with the trees. What we forage as fresh berries gets turned into Elderberry Vinegar instead. You'd probably get some really great Rosehip gummies too with your wonderful Honey. That syrup is also great along side Elderberry. Off to check out your other canner video now 😁

Heather! Were you reading my mind? I just made my first elderberry syrup and canned it from organic dried berries I got from Amazon. My problem is how to get my autistic 4 year old to take it because she has a huge sensory issue with a lot of foods/drinks. However, she WILL take gummies! You may have just saved us all a world of heartache! This is me, off to Amazon to order more elderberries. Thank you!

Just a note of caution to anyone making the gummies. My gummies did mold in the frig while the "syrup/juice" did not. So I don't think they last quite as long. I found them molding after just a few weeks. They were such as easy way to get our elderberry in each day!

You forgot to scrape off the foam on the gummies lol you also need to cure them out in open air for that size 3-4 days. No less than that. Or they will be too wet. You need to cure them to get the moisture out. Also you waisted way too much gelatin by pouring it in your mixture when it was WAY too hot. Quick google search to see the max temp for gelatin before you render it useless for its purpose to make the gummy. You didn’t need that much gelatin if you had the correct temps. ❤
