Awesome video, as ever, Mr. Peach! One other tip if people want their blocks to look more like weathered stone: before assembly and painting, put them in a plastic bin with some actual rocks from the garden and shake them up really well. That will put rock-textured dents and dings into them, then just follow your tutorial from there! :)

One way to get cheap scenery paint is to grab whole bunch of wall paint "test packs" - they are cheap as dirt, come in variety of colors and tend to be durable and have good coverage. Another useful things are "concrete effect", "hammered metal " and rust effect sprays you can get in various arta and craft stores. They are reasonably priced, and save a lot of time . And combined with some quick and dirty homemade washes (or oil wash in case of hammered metal", they allow to paint decent looking scenery extremely quickly.
@sourwyrmple89986 ай бұрын
For Necromunda terrain, I wanted to go for a rusty, industrial theme. I used a textured "aged iron" in a can before adding color. Then, I base coated brown. Next, I used a series of sponged on craft paints. This process looks great and it's super cheap to do. I'm sure using sponged on layers of craft paint would work for other applications as well.

There are often really interesting shapes in polystyrene packing in most boxed items. You can’t use most rattle can spray paints because they contain solvents so people use emulsion house paint e.g. colour tester pots or a mix of PVA glue and cheap acrylic paint and sometimes sand mixed in for texture. Super cheap and easy to modify or weather with any sharp knife. If you want to get fancy, you can buy a hot wire tool and make practically anything with a hot glue gun. I remember making entire castles from sheets of polystyrene and if it gets broken or a mistake is made then it’s an historic ruin. Cheers!

Late comment to this video, but I think you should do a scratch build from cheap kids toys. I have seen other creators do it before as a challenge, and it is always awesome. In the States we have what we call Dollar Stores. Cheap shops that have a bunch of cheap stuff under $5 or even under $1. Basically you buy like some cool cheap toys for like less than $10 and other craft stuff they sell there, or even anything in the store really, and make a terrain piece, or pieces from chopping them up and repurposing it. Especially Sci-Fi terrain, crashed ships etc. Love your stuff so far. cheers!

Very convincing result Peachy, it rocks ! And I love seeing how excited you are with that revelation. Next time you use wooden blocks, remember... it's wood. There's no glue that bonds it better than plain cheap wood glue. Just stick sanding paper on a board, have a few passes on it with the block side you want to glue to remove the paint and varnish for a better grip, coat it with glue, press it with the other block. I can guarantee you it won't break if you drop it from a table or a shelf. The hot melt glue ? I would not bet on it.
@_threepointedcircle_6 ай бұрын
This is genius! Gald you hit on the Mos Eisley vibe, I had that in my head the whole way through. My top tip, If I can add one... Once you brush the filler. To hide the brush strokes, just give it a pass over with a sponge. Just dab the sponge all over, and it'll remove the brush strokes.
@PeachyTips6 ай бұрын
Great top tip! Normally I would stab the filler once it was beginning to dry, but filming got interrupted and then it was too late, so I just accepted it as it was. Though I suppose I could’ve mentioned that in the video 🤦♂️ But the sponge idea is smarter I think as it can be done on the first pass without the need to wait for it to cure a little 👍👍👍
@_threepointedcircle_6 ай бұрын
@PeachyTips I think you did mention stabbing with a brush, so you didn't forget. I found out by accident that sponge was a great way to blend the effect, it soaked up any runs and gave a great texture on top.

Few fun additions while keeping a mini around for scale: aluminum foil under PVA glue with sand (get the sand from a crafting store & extra bottle of 1/2 PVA glue, 1/2 water), wax paper (great thing to put down while painting), parchment paper & for the hot glue gun be sure to get an inexpensive ceramic plate to put under it (to easily clean, use extra blobs of glue & protect the table).

With larger structures in view, the terrain still looks great for the cost, but the zoomed in view on square blocks with grass growing from the gaps really stood out to me as punching above their weight class. Oh.. initially those primary bricks are not convincing me but as they say "scrubs up nicely", what a transformation, I see historical ruins, fantasy, science fiction.. most of all, I like what I see. I think wooden blocks might be in my future, quite like the idea of robust ruins daubed with Ork patterns, something that can take a few knocks and easilly fixed. Cracking vid.. excited to see them in you beauty shots, battle reports and most of all, future expansion vids. Some cheap experiments I've done - Cocrete bunkers from packing styrofoam shapes. Columns from plastic tubes that contained water-soluble vitamins. Clad in rectangles of cereal box card over a layer of PVA'd kitchen roll. Piles of ammunition, stacked cannon balls from little airgun bb pellet balls I've found around outside, filled a couple of old agrax bottles over a summer. Washed, glued into stacks, painted, perfect scale for scatter terrain. A larger pyramid stack painted like stone might go nice with wood block ruins too.

This is great idea as someone with limited space and storage at the moment a terrain set like this would be perfect for me. Went in to this quite skeptical, thinking it'd be more of a last resort, low budget option for scenery, but damn, yeah, that came out proper nice. I was still doubtful until you started adding the extra painted markings, and then the grass tufts really did just bring it home in a way I didn't expect. And then arranged on the grass mat with the trees around the outside as a natural boundary, has a sort of nostalgic vibe to it, like the random structures you'd see in games like Halo where you don't even think about what it's supposed to be or why it was built, once you see the enemy is there it just makes sense to fight over it. Great video, really gets the neurons firing
