Merry Christmas to you and everyone at Herons Bonsai! Thank-you so much for the wonderful video, as always. Back in the 80's when my husband and I were just married we moved into our very big old farmhouse on an acre of land in Ohio. Money was very tight, and I foraged for greenery to make Christmas decorations those first few years. Our property bordered some wilder places, and I found rosehips and pine branches and wax berries. I had pinecones, black walnuts, crabapple, hawthorn and english ivy. I didn't know all the names back then, but I surely enjoyed gathering the bits and pieces. Then the crazy years ensued, and store-bought decorations were easier and faster when kids and work call you in all directions. We are much older now, moved to North Carolina and are downsizing and I find myself wanting to go back to more natural decor. I have only started collecting but I will say, the holly here in North Carolina has more berries on it than I have ever seen.

Laurels were also used to commemorate a victory in the Olympics, it's where the term "don't rest on your Laurels comes from, meaning don't live on your past victories. Have a merry Christmas my friend!

I have used this same idea, but this year, I will lay them on the top of an overturned brass planters (3 of them) and place a large round ice candle on top of the wreath, which is sitting on the brass planter. They are gorgeous. My grandbaby (4 yr, old) can't wait to see them. The ice candle is made from a water inflated large balloon, to which I drill a hole in the top, and place a candle. Happy Christmas.

Merry Christmas Peter, and to everyone at Herons. I laughed out loud when you said you had an artificial tree because you don’t want a live tree in your house. That’s sort of like a zoo keeper not having a pet inside.

Peter, I hope you are correct about holly berries and mild winter. In North Texas our native holly is called Possumhaw Holly, almost no berries this year. I love your wreaths. Saturday, in our little country cemetery we placed juniper wreaths on the graves of veterans. Next year it might be good to add other native species of plants, adding variation in colors and shapes. Thanks for this timely video.

Place a wreath on my behalf - your veterans helped to keep peace everywhere. Praying that the world will be a safer place next year.

Love watching this video, but had to giggle a bit when you are talking about winter with green grass and leaves around you. As I watch this it is -22C (warm for this time of year) and we have about 36 cm of snow built up. And I also have a stick in a pot, because you inspired me to work with what I have. One day that stick will be a beautiful tree in a pot.

don't like live trees in the house Peter? interesting
@h.b.14212 күн бұрын
I think he only meant christmas trees, not bonsai or other plants. Christmas trees like fir or spruce don't life too long in a warm room or can suffer during that time quite badly and lose a lot of needles.

Nice seasoanal video! I just came from one of my favorite plant channels, the Fraser Valley Rose Farm. He cultivates roses and just created a RosaPedia. A soft launch is in the making. How about creating a BonsaiPedia and pouring all of your knowledge into it, as a lasting legacy so to speak. Maybe even collaborate with other Bonsaimasters and Dendrologists. I wish you a great christmas season. Greetings from the backwoods of Hungary.
