Will you stock the Chemex Glass Handle in 8 or 10 Cup in the future?

Not long maybe five minutes

I was interested in the stainless steel filter rather than paper. Would this give the same level of “clean” filtration as the thick paper?
@AlternativeBrewing4 жыл бұрын
No. Although it is a fine metal filter, it does allow fine particle through that end up as sediment at the bottom of your cup. Not a lot but it's significant compared to the paper filter that almost let in zero sediment.

Thanks for your reviews. I love my Chemex 6 cup. My grinder just broke ... what would you suggest as the best electric grinder as a replacement (I only make coffee with a Chemex, so don't need versatility - just a grinder that is reliable and doesn't break) and which would you suggest as the best hand held grinder for making 6 cups using the Chemex (when we're camping.) Thanks!

You take a Chemex camping! 😲 ... I guess if you're super careful than it's great for making a batch brew for the whole crew 👌 I'd be so worried it'd break 😂 Suggestions for Grinders to use with the Chemex would be: •Welhome ZD-10T Grinder alternativebrewing.com.au/product/welhome-coffee-grinder-conical-burr-zd-10t/ •Baratza Encore alternativebrewing.com.au/product/baratza-encore/ • Fellow Ode alternativebrewing.com.au/product/fellow-ode-brew-grinder/ Or for HaGrindersers to take camping - You'll get a lot of inconsistent grind sizes with a ceramic burr grinder at the coarser end of the grind spectrum - so I would recommend getting at least a grinder with steel burrs like: •Timemore C2 Hand Grinder alternativebrewing.com.au/product/timemore-chestnut-c2-hand-grinder/ •Lido 2 alternativebrewing.com.au/product/lido-2-hand-grinder/

How is this compared to a regular electric coffee maker? I hate the flavor of a regular coffee maker. I use AEROPRESS only, but would be nice to get high quality flavor coffee enough for 2 people instead of 1 at a time.

How are you measuring the bloom quantity , and then the 100ml pours ? scales under the Chemex ?
@AlternativeBrewing4 жыл бұрын
yes you could use scales or you can volumetrically count - so a nice slow pour from a goose neck kettle is around 3-5ml / second so 10seconds = 30-50ml. 👍

When using the Chemex six with the fellow stagg. How does one get six cups of coffee 1.42L, when the stagg only holds 0.9L?

You may have to re-boil the kettle! :(

Could you please explain the difference (if any) between coffee brewed in a Cheney and a V60. Thanks
@philave54824 жыл бұрын
Both of them are cone-shaped pourovers. So the main difference between them are filters. V60 has 1-layer papers, so they result cup has more oils in it.
@AlternativeBrewing4 жыл бұрын
The Paper Filter would be the major difference. Chemex brewers are only made from Glass, where as the V60 has various Cone filter materials such as Ceramic, Metal, Plastic and Glass. -However the V60 is ore suited to 2-3 Cups max - where as the Chemex easily brews for 6-8 cups.

What do you think about the difference between Chemex and Brewista Hourglass? Could you really use the Brewista Hourglass with chemex or V60 filter papers? Great review!

Yes you can!

Also if brewing for more than one cup, how much coffee should I add? 70gm with 1180ml?
@AlternativeBrewing3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's ideal around the 6g for every 100ml of water. So this would equate to 72g of coffee 👍 close enough 😀
@GerryScullion3 жыл бұрын
How do you know the volume of water to add? Are you roughly adding it? I mean, I use a Stagg from Fellow, but if I was to follow your video of doing a 210ml pulse, I'd need to measure it out and add the kettle (presuming you don't do this!)
@AlternativeBrewing3 жыл бұрын
IN the video I use a set of scales - and in most coffee brewing to recipe I'll do the same - but pouring to an approximate - although it won't yield you reliable consistent results - you can still brew a good coffee guessing water amount if you've practised enough.

hey bro can you explain the purpose of wood handle? its just for a grip or theres something reason maybe? and the belly button and the chemex
@AlternativeBrewing3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! The “belly-button” of the Chemex indicates the carafe is half filled and once it's at the bottom of the wooden collar it indicates it's full.

Do you change the coffee to water ratio when you go to 4 or 6 cups? Is it better to change the grind?
@AlternativeBrewing4 жыл бұрын
I would change the grind for sure, depending on how strong you prefer your coffee too though. I like a very rich and heavy cup, or else you can increase the ratio to allow a little more clarity in the cup

Do you happen to know what a good grind setting would be for the chemex using a Baratza Encore grinder?

I would use around a 22 - 26 setting and see how that goes 👍

Does the reusable filter make as good coffee as the paper?
@AlternativeBrewing3 жыл бұрын
There are qualities to the METAL filter that are not present using Paper filter and vice versa. You can get a similar tasting coffee with both however the Metal filter broadly speaking, will produce a heavier more full flavoured brewed with some sediment versus a brew formt he Paper filter that has more clarity of flavour and is much cleaner.
@nagchumpalot Жыл бұрын
@@AlternativeBrewing Shame.. seems like a waste of paper is there any metal type filter that gives comparable or as good as results as paper! I refuse to believe this can't be done.. Ha ha.

just rinse it? no soap?
@AlternativeBrewing6 ай бұрын
If you're rinsing straight after with hot water - then soap should not be needed. If you let it dry out - then soap may help. Usually though - hot water removes coffee stains better than anything else.

but you do not explain what is the device you are using to keep in it warm, I made it and the coffee goes cold way too quick

You can get a separate glass lid to keep the steam in, but other than that not sure how to keep it warm longer other than transferring to a carafe
@tspad323 жыл бұрын
@@thosearepinklemonsMyself, I use a votive candle in a glass teapot warmer, but the Chemex brewer can be set on a gas burner and kept warm at the lowest setting.
@shekss54572 жыл бұрын
Ik this is a year late, but I personally use a little glass tea plate (Fits perfectly on top and keeps the steam inside) you can also try placing the pot on top of a over mitt as that will keep heat from escaping thru the bottom
