Thanks for sharing your work with us. Last August at the no till conference at Burlington,CO I sat through a presentation about this. I dropped the ball and think about it again until this past week. I will be gathering up what I need to start building my Johnson Su bio reactor.

@@youngredangus6041 No, I'm a gardener farming my food locally at home and sharing with friends, I support the farming community. I watched your video and others to glean ideas of how to use some farming practices in Square Foot Gardening . Presently I using the Johnson Su Compost Bioreactor to increase my productivity, plus I love the simplicity of filling and allowing it to mature instead of turning it frequently, saving my back. I just sent my soil samples to a certified soil lab technician from Elaine Ingham school to find out what going on in my bioreactor.They are located here in Texas. I will be posted a video showing how I'm going to make a JSCB extract on a smaller scale using some of your ideas from the Bioreactor 5. Thanks for all you do. This might be a dumb question but the seedlings you show around 3:00 look like they have commercial seed treatment on them. The stuff we get on our seed corn has the same pink color and is full of fungicides. Wouldn't that negatively affect the microbes you're introducing with the compost extract? Great stuff, thanks for sharing!
@youngredangus60412 жыл бұрын
Probably the most commonly asked. Question I get. so not dumb. the response the seed has is so strong that it responds anyway even with the fungicide I’m sure the fungicide has a negative response in someway, but not to negate the effects of the seed treatment

Good evening Jay I m into regenerative agriculture, and find you videos very. interesting. This extractor does it just speed up the soil health process. In our area it is recommended to use a lot potash. What's your opinion on that?
@youngredangus60412 жыл бұрын
We don’t get recommendations for applying potash. I would look into doing a complete soil digestion test that I recommended in the video “Solving the Phosphorus Problem.” Then asking Lance if he thinks that you have access potassium in your soil. We had 9000lbs of potassium an acer. In our soils. That is what Potash is used for isn’t it?

@@youngredangus6041 I farm 1000 acres in Manitoba Canada. Want to make a bunch of Johnson Su bios this spring so they will be ready for spring 2024. This year will be using pre bought compost. Already have the IBC totes and am planning to do Kyle Schnells method. Planning to use insulated sea cans to store them. My issue is the extraction process. Doesn't look like I'm going to be able to get one of these extractors. Other options/homebuilds look very slow, I'm sure you have tried them before landing on this awesome Bio 5 extractor. So here's my idea. Leave the finished compost in the IBC tote, fill it with water, shoot compressed air into the bottom valve to aerate and agitate the compost. Use a IBC tote lid with holes (like what's in the bottom of the Kyle Schnell style reactors) to essentially "french press" the solids back down into the bottom of the tote. Could bolt some 30 mesh and a long handle onto the "press". Then sump pump liquid extract through one or two hydrocyclones on the way out to the nurse tank similar to what they are doing with the bio 5 extractor. This idea just hit me today, seems like it would be pretty fast as then you can just deal with the extracted compost later. Thanks for your videos they are very useful for coming up with ideas for my own farm.

I won't need to see a video to see how you cut the bioreactor for emptying. Somehow I missed this video "How to build and fill a bioreactor quickly. Similar to a Johnson SU Bioreactor" at kzbin.info/www/bejne/fn6ql5WBrKqlpac. I saw how your team made a top and cut the bioreactor to enlarge it. I don't need to enlarge it, but cut my existing one and put on a removable top, so I can get to the compost after it matures and has dropped to the lower level of the totes. Also, I probably make a top from cattle panel or use PVC pipe filled with gravel to use as the frame for the top. I use gravel, so the wind don't blow it off since the bioreactor is outdoor. I would attach the cloth with zip ties or snap clamps. www.snapclamp.com/ You use those zip ties a lot. Awesome. I have a thread on my bioreactor that contains some of your work on the square foot garden forum showing my journey. squarefoot.forumotion.com/t22422-the-sfg-journey-johnson-su-bioreactor-for-composting-no-turning. I do not see it as incomplete, and that must be necessary, unless you do not share the part where it enriches the extract. If you do not do it definitively it is very poor what we must comply with these methods in the soil or larger volumes of your compound are required.
