Ok, maybe it's just me, but I'm dying to see you mix those crayon shavings into some resin and turn that! I haven't even finished the video, but the shavings from cutting the center out just mesmerized me!
@LaynieFingers9 жыл бұрын
Ok, I finished watching- that bracelet shows great potential! I'd love to see what happens if you chuck the crayons into a slightly wider pan, and keep sections of like colors, so they might mix into blechy colors less. Melt the blank, save the turnings and shavings to put into resin, and then you'd get two bracelets!

OMG the shavings were fabulous! I wonder what would happen if you spread the shavings on a piece of wood then slowly heated them. Would be cool if the wax soaked down into the wood and colored it. Or when your new crayons arrive just scribble all over a piece of wood then heat it and see what happens. Maybe nothing, maybe something awesome. I really can't believe that whole process worked! Well done! I thought for sure it would get too warm on the lathe and lose its shape. I bet if you Dip It the bracelet would be more wearable. I think your next bracelet should be made out of paper. Same process but with a big block of paper instead of crayons. I think it could work.

Could you paint a layer of resin over the bracelet to help prevent cracking.breaking?
@3DSeth9 жыл бұрын
+8-Bit Chef I was going to suggest the same thing. My main worry is that someone would leave it in a car, and it would heat up and melt and ruin the interior, but I think if he coated it with resin then it would be sealed in and wouldn't be as much of a risk.
@GeekVFood9 жыл бұрын
3dseth That's a good point. I do wonder if it would leave a hollow resin shell if it did melt, or if the resin would impregnate the wax, making it solid and rigid.
@3DSeth9 жыл бұрын
+8-Bit Chef I imagine it would either impregnate the wax, or it would seal it in so that, even if it did melt, it would simply be liquid wax inside a resin tube (although if it did that, the different colors might meld together making one color instead of the cool multi-color look).
@peterbrownwastaken9 жыл бұрын
+3dseth I hadn't thought of that! That might be a really cool looking cast!

Remember how you did the stack of colored pencils? Id like to see you do a similar thing with the Crayolas (with paper sleeves intact) and assemble the stack in a color order like ROYGBIV (rainbow) pattern and then with that as a stock piece, you can make rings and other items. Salt shaker out of crayola? Why not!? A handle for a badger hair shaving brush? Why not?! :)

The pure joy you exhibit in your project is truly wonderful! I laugh so much, and enjoy the process of the project as much as I enjoy the end piece :) Just a note: I've watched many videos on candle/soap making, including candles made with crayons. The one thing that is consistent in both projects is, when you're using 2 (or more) different colors, it's important to let the first layer dry before adding the second color/layer. That way the colors don't run together, and the addition of the 2nd layer has enough heat to bond the 2 layers together. Another hint: After pouring the melted wax into the mold, a quick spritz of alcohol (rubbing alcohol. Using consumable alcohol would be a major party foul! LOL) will remove the air bubbles. I hope to see more projects using crayons! That was wonderful and the bracelet was very pretty :) One more thing lol Several people have commented that something with crayons dipped in resin would be a great project and I wholeheartedly agree!

I enjoy the exploration of different materials you use. If a project fails I would consider it a success because you have learned from the experience. I hope one day especially with young children we treat a fail as a success because of the knowledge gained. I often wonder how many great things could be invented but are not because we don't want to to the chance because we might fail. Thanks for the videos 8-)

yeah i hate to say it but the cheap crayons are just that, i do all kinds of things with crayons and the cheap ones are crap. they even color like crap. looks like a rainbow took a poo on your drill press to, i found that just as funny. dip it in that super gloss resin and harden it, it will look shiny and stand up to some abuse.

LMAO...had no idea you would reply to that. but yeah there is, the ones you get from a resturaunt for kids to keep busy with, they vary..but most of the time i think its the wax they use and color mixtures..but its funny too when i ask my wife, did you ever think you would hear your husband asking you to buy crayons for him...but heating up a crayola it gose back to normal, were rose art crayons will almost get gritty and flakey.
