Exactly. I used to literally HATE everything he was in. I don’t know why. However in 22 I bumped into and met him at a thing. We met and I was like listening in and not engaging. Two hours later we met up again alone-ish, kinda. He was like I noticed he really didn’t care for that story I was telling but did I say it wrong? I was like no I just I don’t know how to say it, but I have a hard time watching you sometimes I don’t know what it is. And there’s just something about you. That is just kind of not rubbing me the wrong way, but I just can’t put my finger on it. He looked at me and he leaned in, whispered and said, “Carlitos Way!” I stood there and thought and I said, YES! That was YOU?!!! I can’t stand that guy! So, I did my job-guy? Oh, yes…Wow, now I get it. I am so sorry. He said, Na it’s a compliment…I get it every now and then. Such a nice guy. The best!

Was at some point in a version of the script John Leguizamo going to die in this movie? Let me explain why I thought that, guy leaves everything for his best friend seemingly on a whime, and there is that part where he looks like he is in paint in the food truck, and probably a few more reasons that i can't think of right now, but the movie for some reason gave me that feeling. Or maybe i'm crazy. Still I love this movie.

My late momma and pops in the past owns a restaurant (I was from my elementary till college) and this is how I learned to cook from my mom. She teaches me by casually asking me to bring things from the rack/fridge then letting me put them in the pot/pan, later on letting me know how many minutes/hours I should let it simmer/brown/fry. My dad had his signature pork/chicken adobo that my late momma's friends and everyone loves. Till this day I cant get the measurements rights despite my dad eyeballs the vinegar and soy sauce. 😅 I cook a lot and eat a lot and my Primos are always at my casa for dinner or our Sunday Buddle fights.

I love this movie too. But it's not good. It's boring. I saw the plot coming miles away and never really felt deeply about the chef. The actings are good but the characters are skin deep. And the mother character's decisions are just plot devices(not that they couldn't make sense, just not properly set up). I think that's the reason why this movie works. The plot is just enough to carry the food scenes and the father-son bonding moments. Audience probably knew very fast that they didn't have to think about what is happening. I rewatch this movie too, but not all the way through, just most of the second half really. I think if someone makes a long music video of all the foodtruck scenes, I would just watch that. But for what it is, it is PERFECT. Martin Scorsese is probably right in that not all movies are cinemas. Some are rollercoaster rides and some are just feel-good music videos. Nothing wrong with that

This movie is good. I think what you mean is that it’s not “high art”, and sure, that’s true. But it’s still a great movie. This movie is this movie. It is a great sandwich made with love and affection and dished out to the masses. It’s not a 3 star Michelin restaurant serving menu. But to say the movie isn’t good, is like saying these sandwiches aren’t good food. They are fantastic food, but they aren’t designed to transport you to another realm. I would argue that Chef, despite its simple premise, is better than 90% of the films that are out there, and if that isn’t good enough for a movie to be considered good, I don’t know what is
