Really nice work G, those caps are the icing on the cake for sure. I've never tried working with copper but it looks like it's something to try in the future.

Thanks Larry! They did turn out quite nice. I would give it a go for sure. It's the first time I tried something like this. The rest was electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and refrigeration experience from years back. Look up some of the videos real artists are doing with copper. It's mind blowing. Take care, G.

Beautiful Work G! Love the final look and colors. Pretty massive undertaking with courage to spare. FYI I didn't get notifications from this or the fence build but got the gate build...whose nose with Googletube anymore. Great build, Thanks for sharing.

Thanks PJ! Yeah, even with comments, I'm probably only notified 50% at best. I have to manually check. The "can't quite get right" clan is at it again. G.

I love the idea. Have you considered making a positive and negative form out of oil soaked wood and using your vise as a press? You could form the whole piece in one go.
@ghostses

No, I hadn't considered that approach. This was a 3 off, so this is the way I elected to go. Interesting concept though. Take care, G.

I do like a bit of copper. I have a 6x3 sheet from a hot water cylinder waiting to be something.

Just finished reinstalling my six year old, custom fence that I had to dismantle and stored for most of this past year. Wanted to copper cap the four posts (4"x4"). Copper flashed the gate top rail ... enjoyed working with 10mil copper sheet I used for that and am intrigued with your design for your caps. Any chance you could copy me in on your design? I'd be happy to pay any copy/copyright fees. Best regards

Hit me up in a week for so Tom. I know I have my files saved somewhere but need to extract the template for what I've done. I'll upload my template so you can download it. It may not fit your application, but should give you a starting point. G.

Terrific project! I'm building a privacy fence right now too and I'd like to make custom copper caps for my posts. What gauge of copper sheets do you use? I don't have an acetylene torch. Can you use a MAPP torch? It's a little hotter than a propane torch, and it's all I've got. How about the filler rods that you use to braze the seams? What's the spec on them? I subscribed ! Thanks so much!

Thanks Luann. I can't say what the guage was other than "heavy" since it was a scrap. Mapp gas is what I used for this project- so no problem there for you. I used a 15% silver solder for the brazing. Not that is the only option but it's what I had on hand. Here's a link to what I used. Hope this helps and good luck, G. www.amazon.com/HARRIS-STAY-SILV-PHOS-COPPER-SILVER-BRAZING/dp/B0089EXHK4/ref=asc_df_B0089EXHK4/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312128028232&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10536466434130236521&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1024324&hvtargid=pla-599168181284&psc=1

How are they attached to the fence posts?
@ghostses
@ghostses 4 жыл бұрын
Good question Will! I was going to use construction adhesive, but I made them tight enough it wasn't required. I splayed the edges out slightly, installed, then tapped them tight to the post. They're nice and tight. If the posts shrink any, I may need to tap them again. Take care, G.
