Hey Jen! Isn't it such a blessing to have a hubby who KNOWS how to fix stuff like a broken main? We had the same thing happen earlier this year and I was so glad to know that my husband saved us THOUSANDS of dollars in repair! Love the fork swirl! Also sorry for your SIL's loss.. it's hard to loose a loved one.

That looks beautiful. Sadly that is not one I would be able to enjoy because I am allergic to coconut. Love the colors together though. The swirl was amazing.

Hi Jen! I have a question - does the HTM cause shea butter to turn grainy? Just wondering since I've seen vids where people will melt their oils/butters, but will add the shea butter to the hot oils to let it melt. I guess the real question is...do the oils/butters that are done by the HTM, get way too hot for the shea butter. Oooooh, pretty soap! TIA

Looks good. What dimensions are your molds? Did you cut the "double batch" lengthwise first?

Beautiful Jen!! Where did you get your soap cutter? I am still using a hand cutter but I really want to get a wire one for cleaner, more accurate cutting.

your hard oils melt so much faster than mine. i do 5# batches of oils. a little more than 3# of that is hard oils. i don't even use cocoa butter. my hardest is soy. i swear it takes mine ten minutes to melt. then i pour in my liquid oils and powdered cream (which i have reconstituted) and by the time i make my batch of soap, it is still too hot and ends up cracking. if i catch it, i try to mend it with my finger. otherwise, its just aesthetics. i've thought about starting to keep my liquid oils in the fridge. think that would help?

Beautiful soap - love the colors. I'm sure the scent is fantastic since your son said he liked it. I've noticed you use a lot of fats and hard oils in your soaps, yet you don't seem to have a problem with ash developing on top. How do you avoid that? What's your secret? Is it your formulation and can you share?

I think a lot of it has to do with that i spray with alcohol several times the first couple hours and i also throw a towel over the top once they are set and keep the air off the top.

spraying with 99% rubbing alcohol helps a lot! I spray it as soon as it's set then once every hour for the first 3/4 hrs. But that's just me.

I get ash about 25% of the time no matter how hard I try to not have it. It comes off easy by holding the soap in the steam coming off a boiling kettle. Be super careful though. Don't burn the hand holding the soap into that steam! I think I'll do a video to show how I do it. I have three soaps right now waiting to package that have ash.
