I researched oils that were good for hair and possibly additives that could aid in the hair and scalp cleansing process. I wanted a silky bar that felt luxurious, so I added mulberry silk. I also used coconut oil, olive oil, palm oil, mango butter, castor oil, flaxseed oil, and grapeseed oil. I chose a higher percentage of coconut oil to cleanse the hair. Mango butter is a great choice for shampoo bars, because it's less likely to leave a film on the skin and hair than other butters. Castor oil, flaxseed oil, and grapeseed oil are thought to give hair strength, scalp relief, and possibly help hair to grow longer by keeping it healthy without as much breakage.
As a soap maker I can't make medical claims on any of my soaps. This is just an informative video explaining why I chose the ingredients I chose.
As a hairstylist of 12 years, I strive to make the best soaps I can to give you the best feeling hair.
These are best for short to medium length hair and conditioner is always recommended, especially if your hair tangles easily. I'd also recommend this as a beard shampoo. I know I'll be having my husband use it!

I think it's very good that you show your mistakes too, that was very scary. Now all of us can avoid getting acid burns. Good demonstration of why protective gear is so important...

Yeah sometimes citric acid will do that. I started mixing it into the water well in advance and I make sure its all dissolved.

I use citric acid as well but I dissolve it using the liquid portion for the lye solution before adding the lye. Beautiful shampoo bar!

Bet that woke you up ... ACID + BASE = reaction! Plus 160 is a little high.

melt your oils in the microwave on power level 3 for 5 minutes. It was a pH thing.

adding water with a pH of 7 will cause the same reaction. Always add lye to the water/oil.

Glad your ok !! Could have happened for the same reason you don’t add the water to the lye solution cause it will volcano like the citric acid did. So glad your ok

Glad you were ok, maybe it volcanoes because you added liquid citric acid solution rather than dry citric acid crystals. Soap turned out pretty. Did you add extra lye , considering the citric acid cancels out or eats some of the lye?

Thank you! I didn't add any extra lye because I had such a high coconut oil content. I kept the base recipe at 5% superfat and let the citric acid do the rest.

Well, I really enjoyed the video. That’s the advantage of watching some many soapers, you learn something new every time. Your recipe is an easy one. Have you used it a long time?

@@freddieivory625 I formulated it the day I made it after a lot of research. I accumulated tips and tricks from other soapers. Every oil that I chose, I chose for a reason. Basically every ingredient in there was chosen specifically for hair. I wanted something that would be very cleansing and wouldn't leave a heavy residue on the hair after rinsed. I also wanted it to be gentle. I know a lot of times high coconut content can be very stripping. That's the positive of putting it into shampoo so that the hair could be rid of all of the excess oils. But at the same time hair really needs to stay nourished. Stripping it of too much oils can actually cause you to create more oil on your scalp and cause the hair to have an excess oil problem. The scalp could be trained to adjust to different things. If you start using a shampoo bar your hair will look really oily at the root until your natural production adjusts to what's needed. If you're constantly stripping your root area of all of its natural oils then your body will think that it needs to produce more.

That’s Why we should wear always gloses + goggles + hair net + long sleeves and pants + secure & vantelated area + safe for kids & pets. At 2:30 we can see you’re not wearing long sleeves and the chemical reaction fortunately didn’t spill in your arms or else it could result in painfull burns… please be more caution next time! Ufa! That was like an explosion! Be safe than sarrow.

Would this be good for curly hair?

It's less stripping than a conventional shampoo. I'd say to use a clarifying shampoo to strip the hair of build up, then use this. The clarifying shampoo is to be used only when the hair feels too weighed down. I'd say that this bar is good for thicker, coarser curls. I'd avoid it on longer thin hair. It does take about a month or so for anyone's hair to adjust to shampoo bars. So it will seem more oily at first until your scalp recognizes that it doesn't need to produce as much oil for the hair. Make sure to rinse thoroughly and follow up with a conditioner or a leave in conditioner. I have a leave in conditioner video on my channel as well. As with anything to do with hair, there may be an adjustment that needs to be made in your hair routine. Happy hair washing!

I use 1% super fat with Coconut oil, Olive oil, Lard, and Castor. I love the bar. It does make my hair curly though. When I use a conditioner it helps with the curls.
