Hi Steve, another very clear & concise video thanks. I have a 30yr old Bullfinch with 4 grades of nozzle, fitted onto a small propane bottle. Great for hard & soft soldering, but limited for brazing with brass rods. About a year ago a friend recommended a rothenberg MAPP gas torch with disposable canisters. Ideal for jobs needing more heat or more speed. hope this helps. thanks for the tips on rods and flux too.

Nice job! Great video. I saw a tool on a different video were the machinist had made all his cutting tools into one holder, the tool steel was wider the holder slot and overhanging. All down the side and tips. Thanks for the brazing lesson.

Thank you for another practical and useful video. I've been meaning to get one of these torches for a while now and you have inspired me to do so sooner rather than later.

The best abrasive buffing compound I have found is Satene compound. This is great as it is wax and oil free, so can be used on metals prior to soldering/brazing without having to degrease. Available in 3 different grit/grades on Ebay from Seller booty1819 .....(MrMetalMagic). The braze I used was Johnson Mathey 40% Flux Coated rods. I believe these have a melting range of 630-690 Degrees, so they are ideal to use with the Bullfinch No 4100 AutoTorch Brazing System. I bought my Silver Solder Rods from Ebay seller tonydale12 The Bullfinch Autotorch Brazing System. I bought online from..... Hamilton Gas Products Ltd

That simple grind certainly is quite versatile Steve... great idea having double ended. Still promising myself a Bullfinch torch. I think your braze rod is one vital aspect - not everything works well. Looks like you get a nice flow. This reminds me - I have several inserts to braze sometime.

Hi Chris, thanks. I have only just got into brazing recently... when I bought the Bullfinch torch. I think they are a great piece of kit and very economical to run. Regards Steve

Thank you very much for the nice video. Would it be possible you make a list of the elements used in your jobs at the finish of the videos? It could be nice to those that are non-english-spokers as me, so it would be easear to identify that elements. Thank´s in advance another time.

I don’t now this mite sound dumb but dose that weaken the insert.What are you brazing with for gas. I see you use propane maybe not for brazing with. ??? Thanks I like making my own tools to. I use railway spikes for putting my inserts on. Before I even had a Lathe I bought 5gal pal of different kinds of inserts.$100 buck’s for the pal. Thank for your time with the video’s
@SteveJordan6 жыл бұрын
Hi Barry no it doesn't weaken the carbide, propane is fine, obviously slower than oxyacetylene, but that doesn't matter. This is a Bullfinch propane torch I use, designed for brazing.
@psion5mxfred7 жыл бұрын
Do you have a decent source for the inserts please? - and thanks for the vids :-) Regards, Ruaidhri Dublin
@zumbazumba17 жыл бұрын
Try metal working factory's or shops -they throw away the inserts when they are dull since its expensive to weld them and regrind them.In a large scale production he wasted more money and time then the inserts cost. Yes you can regrind those ,but whats a 100€ for a box of 10 inserts when you are making million dollars worthy machine.
@tectalabyss7 жыл бұрын
Hi. You can get them through Ebay Amazon Etc. You also need A diamond or green colored grinding wheel for grinding the profile's Mr Jordan has videos talking about how to best grind High speed steel and carbide. Hope this is some help.
@RichColvin7 жыл бұрын
How does propane compare with doing this with an acetylene torch ?
@SteveJordan7 жыл бұрын
Hi Rich, I think an acetylene torch is much better for brazing as there is no restriction on the heat range of rods that can be used, as far as I know. I may be wrong but I think this propane torch works most effectively with rods that have a melting range of about 630-690 deg. Regards Steve

Another great and clear video, thanks Steve, your videos are always a pleasure to watch. Not sure if you can help but I'm thinking of buying a Rothenberger Superfire 2 blowtorch which can be used with Mapp gas and Propane. Do you know if this will be as good and as hot as your Bullfinch 4100, as after seeing your video I'm undecided which one to purchase? I will be hardening silver steel, braizing and case hardening. When you look around there are so many to choose from. Thanks Dave
@SteveJordan6 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, Thanks... I don't know much about the Rothenburger. The only thing that puts me off of Mapp gas is the expense. I have found the Bullfinch 4100 is all I need and very economical to use. I anneal tool steel, harden tool steel and braze with it. Another KZbin Channel that uses it often is xynudu He used to have Mapp but went over to the Bullfinch. I use my home made gas forge with it now to anneal large cold chisels for cheap tool-steel use. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2aXp5hvntSDhsU If you see that video I was using a Sievert then. (I was annoyingly slow speaking then...:) If you see xynudu channel you may find out more as He has had the Bullfinch longer than me. Regards Steve
@davechittem23216 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve. I'll have a luck now. I take it the Bullfinch is on pare with the Sievert also do you know if you can buy different size tips for the Bullfinch?
@ashleyhouse96906 жыл бұрын
What brazing rod were you using there Steve? I've just bought one of these torches and tried to braze a small part using Sifbronze No1 rods and Sifbronze flux and the rod wouldn't melt no matter what I did.
@SteveJordan6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ashley. I use this type www.ebay.co.uk/itm/silver-solder-kit-Silverflo-55-Brazetec-5507-5-rods-x-250mm-1-5mm-flux/232642887431?hash=item362a98bf07:g:i8gAAOSwRgJXgfRq You may find you can get it cheaper if you have time to look though.
@ProtekNickz7 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve xD, another great project, just a question though, wouldn't it have been easier to buy carbon bits with holes in then just threaded the tool and screw them on?, just an idea because that would make changing the carbide tips quicker and easier.
@steveclark..7 жыл бұрын
I were thinking that too and then you can unscrew/turn the bit twice more when one point becomes dull.
@dalemcinnes18345 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that if you saved your carbide tip when two of the points were bad it would be a good time to save them for this very procedure.
@cosast547 жыл бұрын
can you explain the advantage of making a double ended tool instead of two tools?
@SteveJordan7 жыл бұрын
Hi Yes having a double ended tool on the same centre height allows the use of just one tool holder, freeing up another tool holder.... The tool can be used on both sides of the tool-post for various ops without any height adjustment.

i may see some points of improving the welding proses ...1 holding the bar to vice is not a good practice cose the bar acts as a heatshink you may use some teflon tuching the bar and the teflon touching tbe vice 2 the carbite tip must facing the bar and not to exeeding the bar ...........3 sory for my bad english......AND THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEOS
