Making easy improv quilt blocks (Start before you're ready!)

Whoohoo! I took a project from my pile of WIP's and I'm going to finish this quilt this month. Super excited about it, because these blocks are so much fun to make.
Even though I was a little anxiouse to start improv quilting again I think the blocks turned out awesome.
Next week I'll be assembling the blocks in to a quilt top. Aand the week after that I'm going to add a super cool border to it/ So stay tuned!
Ohw and when this quilt top is finished I'm going to use it to practice free motion quilting on. So if you have any questions on free motion quilting so I can try to answer them in upcoming videos.

What a wonderful thing you have done! Some of us just dive right in and play and explore with fabric, but many others want, to but are very hesitant. You have shown those who hesitate how the process often works, that it isn't scary, that it is fun, and its not bad to stop and think or change your mind---that you don't have to know all the answers before you begin! I have finished a quilt called "All wrapped up", it is a picture of a dachshund, with it's head at the top and it's body round the quilt with it's tail etc at the bottom. My twin Grandsons loved to play on it. I would like to try paper piecing, inspired by yourself. Thank you so much.

Hi Irene. What do you use for your design wall? It doesn’t look like you use pins to hold onto the fabric blocks. Is it felt? Does the pale fabric on the wall just hold onto the quilt blocks? Is there batting underneath? I’d like to do something similar. I love your quilts, your instructions and your energy. Thanks!

That is just cruel (kidding) I thought after seeing the FMQ on IG that you would be finishing it up. You are really good at the FMQ, I guess I'm surprised but only because most people that do a lot of the straight line quilting do it because they don't feel comfortable with the free. I learned doing free so I am more comfortable with that especially since I do mostly bed sized quilts. OK see you next week! :(

Haha yes sorry, my IG stories include sneak peeks 😊 I was just doing some stitches on a practice piece of fabric. I'm still working on the quilt top. I decided to add a border to the top and the right side of the quilt. So I'll start quilting here on KZbin on the 9th of May. (Hope you will survive the wait!) Ha, that is a interesting thing! And I think you're right for most quilters. When we learn one style of quilting it is pretty intimidating to try a different style. I did free motion quilting on a very old machine on two baby quilts 6 years ago, just a loopty-loop pattern. But I switched to straight line because of my love for geometric designs. And also because of easy that is with the awesome big walking foot on my Janome :) Now I ordered a ruler for free motion quilting, so I can't wait to try a combination of straight lines and free motion on the arrow quilt.

These blocks were just drawn by hand. When I design quilts on a computer I use Electric quilt 8 🙂
