a lot of instrumentally skilled musicians/producers, especially jazz cats, tend to play 156 chords when giving house music a shot. i appreciate you understanding that harmonic restraint is an important aspect of a good house tune. of course there a different approaches to any style, but i think especially if you spent a lot of time actually listening to house music on a dancefloor, observing what works in that setting, you will quickly realize how a lot of chord changes will destroy the meditative quality of it. there aren't many people who know how to respect that stability, which comes with sometimes even just lingering on one chord, while at the same time keeping it interesting. ❤

less is more. More sound design, less notes and going deeper on rhythm is the key to good dance music.

I think it's all about the reward system. If i'm gonna play a track with huge juicy melodies and an epic chord progression, it usually helps to build tension beforehand with more stripped down, abrasive, or atonal tracks. Fred P is really the master of this method @@mollyoko
