Making friends with locals on the train to Puttalam from Negombo | Sri Lanka

After recharging from our jet lag in Negombo, we continue on our journey to discover more of Sri Lanka, a 4 hour train ride to the small town of Puttalam.

Fun fact: The old locomotive which pulled your train comes from Canada. It's among a set of locomotives which came in the 1950's and 1960's. Most of them are still running strong after 60-70 years. As they were from Canada, they have been named based on Canadian provinces and cities (there are two named British Colombia and Vancouver!).

The locomotives gave to sri lanka by the Canadian government for the COLOMBO PLAN in 60s .These Engines are unique to sri lanka..I dont understand why sri lankan tourism make use these Loco's to attract Rail enthusiasts to visit sri lanka just to ride on them. . BTW the Locos were named all Canadian provinces . what reminds me about these Loco is super loud triple air horn and the beat of the exhaust.

So apparently this set is one of the latest Class M2d to arrive as the 13th, and by then, they run out of Canadian provincial names, and they just named this set Kankasanthurei, which is its designated route. slrailwayforum.com/class-m2 Thank you Canada!!
