Nick, great video as always. You don't really need taps to thread the drilled hole; a bolt will do nicely (well, you'd likely need it for hardwood, but not pine). -Example: I always drill 3mm holes and screw a M4 hex-socket machine screw into that hole; works like a charm. (officially, the bore is 3.3mm for a M4 screw, but since it's wood, you have some tolerance here; it'll just be a tighter fit). Hex-socket wouldn't work well if you need felt pads though. Using CA-glue is a good idea; but you can actually use normal wood glue as well, it just takes longer for PVA to harden.

Great idea! I did something similar but I used a piece of 1/4" flat steel, 2"× 2", drilled a hole in the middle and tapped it for the bolt. I then driiled four smaller holes one in each corner, for screws to secure it the bottom of the legs for my out table, for my table saw. I also drilled into the legs so there was room for the bolt to go up and down. Good video there my good man!!

Hey Nick.....an alternative, if you have them lying around, would be to put some tee nuts in from the bottom. I did this exact same thing with one of my workbenches. Made some 1 1/2" discs and epoxied the bolt head into the centers so I would have feet. Then threaded them into the tee nuts. That way theres more surface contact with the floor work stability.

Nick, what do you think of using threaded inserts in place of tapping the threads in wood? That's usually how I do my levelers. Stay safe out there!

They work good too - normally I do this in harder material and the bare wood has never been a problem

I like this idea but even with the CA glue I would be concerned with the threads stripping out in the soft pine over time. Do you think inserting t-nuts in the holes instead of cutting threads would be better?
@NickFerry2 жыл бұрын
better as in stronger? yes, metal is stronger - but think it's overkill for this desk - if it makes you sleep better, add them
@TheJeffritchie1132 жыл бұрын
@@NickFerryyes, better as in stronger. You’re drilling two holes either way so both would be about as easy, of course the t-nuts would cost more. Thanks for the quick reply. I really enjoy your videos.

Well Nick old boy! Good to see you here. Thanks for the video! Also, how much weight do you suppose those wooden threads could take? A desk can get pretty heavy if it has all my crap on it! 🤣

I am at a loss of why you are using bolt heads for feet. They are very small and slide easily due to material, shape and size. In an emergency - yes, otherwise use standard large diameter chair feet designed for that purpose. They give a large foot print and are easy to adjust externally to the project.
