Did you remove the walnut meat inside and reglue it? Worried about rotting for years to come.

I did not, I had limited time and since they were so easy to make I decided to just crack them after Christmas and save the pins to make more next year if I wish. Apparently the Victorians did often do what you're suggesting, crack them and re-glue, but I don't know if I'd be skilled enough to do that without destroying the shell! Maybe you'd be more successful 😊
