Great video. Thanks also for your generosity. Most people would ask for cash on your idea... but I think sharing and helping one another out is what made this country start out so great! I look forward to building the jig :)

This has to be the best video, I have watched about 20 different ones, but I think even I could do this. Retired RN, but I do have a table saw and a circular saw. : ) Thumbs up !! THANK YOU CLEO

Cleo, That's about the best and safest method I've seen for cutting the handholds in hive bodies. Thanks for sharing.

I made this jig some months ago, and have turned out many professional-looking bee boxes since then. The jig gives a perfectly repeatable result, and the handholds are comfortable to use. Thankyou!

Thanks so much for sharing! I decided to make my own equipment this year with my boys and without a radial arm saw was not sure how to make those hand holds. I've already sent off an email request to you for your plans and can't wait to build it. Thanks again!!

VERY pleased with this idea! I'm brand-new to beekeeping (bees will be ready for pickup towards the middle-end of April). The minor frustration I've had when shopping elements for the equipment I'll need is to look at the brooder boxes and supers (the prices they ask for them) and realizing that they are just a box with a finger joint (which I have a jig for) and a rabbet for frames to hang from along with a couple of slathers of paint on the outside - I figure 'I can do that' for far less than the asking price I've seen in some of the supply stores and online. Only thing I couldn't figure out is how to cut out those handles! :) Thanks to you I have that now too! :) Many thanks!

Thank you so much for doing this video. I have nto looked at your other videos yet but it would be nice to see a video on box making since there are none for the Langstrom hive construction. I am leaving the USA and was hoping to find a good source of info on supers and hive bodys since they do not sell equipment where I am going. Thanks again!

Be extremely careful when feeding a saw in sideways like that, using the set in the saw to clear the cut.. If it grabs, (very likely), it will run abruptly out of the jig and could cut your arm. This setup could be done more safely with a radial arm saw, and the work holding jig set at an angle, but a custom "smile handle" cutter would be far safer yet, and it would give a wider, less parabolic pattern in the finished cut. Such a cutter could be pear-shaped, and could have the shank go completely through the cutting head, supported on both ends, and having interchangeable blades. The workpiece could be clamped into a slide and move between limiting blocks while the cutter is held down.

+Jack Green Yes, well if I could afford a radial arm saw, or had access to one, it would be the ideal option, but for those of us without, this is a very excellent technique, as long as safety is considered at all times.
