I’ve been doing professional woodworking for 38 years. Never once had I thought to sit on the floor and use my toes to hold a piece I was chiseling on. Thats next level craftsmanship. I am not worthy!

If i was a young man again with the hindsight of what would happen to Britain i would make moving to Japan my number one priority and make every effort to adopt their polite, hardworking and beautiful culture. Please please please stay strong Japan and protect your historical way of life. Japan is an example to the world. (Even with a willingness to Integrate and be nothing but hardworking and polite i would not blame them if they rejected me wanting to live there !)

The traditional method used to create the sword was quite beautiful and seemed like a ritual. The making of the knives was more mechanical. I always thought the lines along the blade were caused by folding the metal many times but it seems to be just an artistic addition.

Edit: CRAFTSmen... I love the reverence and focus on quality and tradition that many of these craftsman adhere to. It's sad that much of this will be lost in a generation or two (I guess there will always be hipsters that will use these methods, but it will be small scale, and not so much the unbroken chain of master,apprentice and or grandfater-father-son... I guess if Yellowstone explodes or WW3 breaks out, none of it will matter anyway... Thanks for great video...

The sad part about these craftmen is they are all getting old and no one is replacing them . Thier craft will die with them and the world will have lost something irreplaceable, these men are artists in wood an steel and should be preserved and passed on for future generations. Once these old ways are gone they will be gone forever.

I agree some of them are but in the videos you can still see some younger people learning the trade. I think a lot of these practices are safe for the future. They may not be as popular but there will always be a market for this handcrafted work along side the cookie-cutter manufacturing for todays "throw away" society.

Swords look beautiful, but water tempering kills the steel, creating cracks and making it brittle. These swords are unlikely to be reliable and will most likely break at the first load.
@jaysonquinlan8406
@jaysonquinlan8406 3 ай бұрын
Tell me you're not a metallurgist or blacksmith without telling me... The quench does change the structure of the steel, but that is what MAKES the swords useable... a perfect blend of hardness and flex. The hardness to hold a sharp edge, and flex to keep it from breaking. That quench, combined with a deep understanding of steel is what makes these traditional smiths above the rest... But people who sell knives at gas stations and short lived mall shops need customers too, so keep on keeping on wise one... there's room for you as well...
