With 4 days straight of temps in the upper 80's to low 90's and high humidity. The struggles of drying 5 acres of grass/clover mix is real. The day has come to rake it up and make some quality small square bales. After waiting till midafternoon to get started I quickly realize the hay is just not going to dry down enough to make it. I switch to plan B of making hay. Round bales. However, there is a surprise to return viewers of the channel that know we are a mostly IH tractor farm. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do to get the job done successfully at the end of the day.
We are a small 40 acre direct-to-consumer livestock farm located in Western NY. We provide pasture raised beef, pork, chicken & eggs to our local community. We practice sustainable land practices that utilize natural methods to keep our soils/pastures healthy and our animals happy.
I am the 2nd generation to live on this piece of property after my parents purchased it in 1978. As a child we were not a working farm. But there were dairy farms surrounding us. So naturally I was hooked with farming since I saw my first tractor. As time went on, I worked for a couple of these farms and that only fueled my love of agriculture. In 2019 I was able to move back home as my parents were ready to downsize and I was ready to try my hand at farming. Stacy and logan share the same love of farming as I do. Stacy growing up on her family's dairy farm and logans exposure of farming/tractors at a very young age. Join us on this journey and see where the farm life takes us.

2 nd 😂 & u just popped up, we would rake it at the correct speed to put the wet on top & hit it with a different kind of tedder slow that just fluffed it up when I worked on a horse hay farm we also steel crimped it after cutting it. Sorry u turned green , lol great job

Lol. Green only for doing round bales. For now, till I can afford to buy a tractor that will run the round baler. Or I buy a small 4x4 round baler that the 460 would run. I have used the end of the rake to roll the windrow over 180 degrees to help dry it before. But when I have done that there is usually a breeze and it's not near as humid as it was that day, so it dries out in no time. With rain forecasted that night I just wanted to get it in twine.

Your 100 percent right. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do sometimes. We try to make the best decisions we can for the best interest of the farm, the animals and the crops we grow. It may not always be the best decision in the end but at the time it seemed logical. lol Over a week later by now the hay seems to be decent both the round bales and the few small squares I did bale. I still don't regret switching over to rounds. Thanks for watching the channel.

@Cobbhillfarms If ya gotta keep turning it to get it to dry, just knocking more leaves off and ruins relative feed value.

Matt & Logan--Appreciate your videos--wanted to mention KZbin video of farmer in Massachusetts who used a Super C to pull a 717 New Holland chopper in admittedly thin corn. It was one of the most awesome machinery videos I have watched. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpDHemqMaN9sZqM Kolakoski Farm. It was not a 'low gear' operation! Thanks for your videos and 'total safety'.

Please don't feed your cattle any of that hay. It's gotta be poisoned if that green tractor baled it 😂
