love that v-rake, never used one and never seen one like that pulled with horses, great job
@trinitydairy2 жыл бұрын
It works really good! The only issue we have with the v rake, is in thick heavy hay, it's hard to make the windrow narrow enough for our square baler, because the rake will plug if it's narrowed up to much. If the pickup on our square baler was about a foot wider, it would be great. It's nice for the round baler though, because it's easier to fill the edges of the bale with the wider windrow.

Thanks for sharing the horse drawn equipment. Always interesting to see the old equipment still working just as well as when new.

That's one well-oiled tedder, spinning like that even after stopping. Good combination of horses and tractor getting the hay work done. Since you haven't used the tedder that often yet, I bet your mare will settle down after more time.

That’s just neat to see the horses work. My grandfather used mules so I did get to see him work them. In fact he used a pony to oak his garden in later years

We found back in the 60's when we tried tethering with our side rake we had so many tines break off. And we were careful to not have it to low to the ground. You can really see the tenseness in the mare. Thank you so much for this and all of your videos. I live down by Faribault and some day hope to meet your family.
@woodsgremlin99952 жыл бұрын
I was lucky to find an owners manual for it. It said to set the teeth higher than when you're raking. Another thing I found was the one rear wheel comes off so it doesn't run over the tedded hay.

I have a Allis Chalmers pto driven rake with a gear box with the low, high and tedding mode. Your dad's seems to turn faster on the tedding mode. It's the best rake for pulling rained on hay out of the growing grass.

Hope that is a battery powered rake lift? Hate to see where you have to hook up the hydraulic hoses if it wasnt..wasn't... lol.. Nice the see to whole family working together...

An uncle of mine had three of these types of rakes, a John Deere, Massey Harris and a McCormick-Deering. Better hay rake vs today's modern rake.
@tpfromcentralpa16922 жыл бұрын
Could you edit that first part out? I don't want my supply of NI rakes to increase in price at sales! Most people do not know they ted.............I got one on steel that I love for that job, I wish I could find one on rubber as it is limited where I can use it. The ability to pitch the teeth is a great feature, not only for tedding, but rolling windrows as well. We pitch ours so it will lift the hay more when raking that you can't do with a newer side delivery rake. That might have had a seat on it for horses when it was new based by the lever locations on the rake, neighbors had one just like that built for tractor use and the levers for some things were moved up onto the tongue to reach from the seat. Mine on steel had a seat long since taken off and replaced with a short tractor tongue.

Very interesting that tedder-rake. It made remember my Grandfather on my Mom's side used to stack hay on the wagon with one of those loaders. (The kind where the hay gets "grabbed" up an incline) I really bought into that as a kid. I sometimes thought about how you open your videos with a "moo" that when it will be about Alan's father to open with a "whinny"?? Just a thought.
