You've gotta love cornstarch/cornflour, not only does it make cheap gesso, it also makes delicious cheese and chive sauce! :)

Thank you Betty. I have been putting off buying gesso because of the cost. Now I can make it myself for a fraction of the cost.

Use a little rubber spatula to mix and put in containers, you will not waste any if it. Thanks for sharing

TY Betty for showing clear and the white, you are so funny what a mess you made lol, I wish my messes were more like yours, I'll have baby powder on me the pup, and the floor before I get it in the bowl but we'll smell good doing it! I hope this works for priming my wood panel, if you have another suggestion pls share it with me.

19:29 I bought some cheapish bamboo spoons; not so bendy. A year later, and everything is even more expensive, so thanks for this gesso recipe 🙂

I thank you for the mistakes, it teaches us how to perpare and teach us if we make a mistake we can fix it and keep going. I truly appreciate your video. LOL, use better spoons😊

You can usually unscrew the whole shaker top off of the powder and just pour it.

FYI - I found a quart (32 oz) of gesso at Jerry's Arterama for $15.

I find it easier if you add the liquid to the pot first then slowly add in your calcium carbonate/talc while mixing and you can NOT mix enough/over mix.

I will give that a try! Thank you!

I've never made or used Gesso. When would you use clear Gesso? I'm new to junk journaling so I don't know.

Thanks for great tip! I am a "newbie", so what is the point of using clear gesso? 🤔☺️
@BettysCustomDesigns2 жыл бұрын
clear gesso is basically a sealer for your projects - good for collage master boards.

I use gesso when I need to make a shiny surface more matte or if I need to cover up certain areas.

Anyone tried this recipe..does the clear gesso really go clear when dry or misty?
@lynneellis26477 ай бұрын
I have not tried the recipe, but I would suspect the cornstarch would leave a haze. I have pumice in my studio, which is what I will use when I make clear gesso.

Gesso is used as a primer for your canvas so the paint doesn't soak up in the canvas. That's what it is used for, not the reason Betty gives. Sorry Betty.
