I clicked for LO-Fi, instead I got ACID! SO much better :-)

This is low fidelity

yes, this is lo-fi music. what yall think lo-fi is some old piano sample with sampled drums, which is lo-fi hipho. this is lo-fi ACID, its still lo-fi (Low fidelity)

That's how you do it, that's the best way to get an authentic lofi effect. Running it though a tape is a great idea.

distortion sounds sooo good thru synths. I really wish more people did it

Hey Dustin, so I literally made this beat after reading your comment. As it's easier for me to show than describe. To that end, curious about what sort of distortion you are referring to here? Instrument-level distortion (eg the bass licks I just laid down). Or, perhaps something else? I ask, as I believe cats such as you are my target audience so wanting to understand specific what you like/dislike. p.s. Shameless plug but if you like this beat, it's per a new genre I created called Hoodbass. It's a sub-genre of Electric Trap. Next month I'm dropping a new website called FreeBeatsForAll. I'll have ~2000 beats, ALL FREE comprised of ~30 genres. Come rock with it. Something for everyone.

@@YourFreeBeats thanks for the comment and thoughtful response. I believe in this video he is using a BOSS distortion pedal on the Korg synth, but you can get gnarly distortion from any number of places. Like you could use tape distortion, where the tape can't handle the signal and it gets cut off. Some synths also let you add distortion right on the synth, or overdrive the filter. The original Minimoog actually had some overdrive on the filter by complete accident, but it gives the synth a real nice sound. In the software I use, Ableton, you can use distortion plugins or overdrive the filters on the synth. Works very nicely! I really like your beat, especially the second half of it! I like all the different drum beats u used and also the bass is quite nasty and funky in a classic way. Let me know if you ever wanna collaborate on something, and good luck on your site!

@@Ferrichrome Yes sir. I love to hear you speak on the Model D as I am well versed growing up with the 1974 version (starting in 1974). I've got quite a few Model D beats posted up. Ironically, even the ones I don't mention the gear, they always get the better responses when the Model D shows out on a beat. I'm pretty sure I have that Pedal you referenced so this gives me a reason to take out. Heh heh. I've got about 7-9 pedals, but really never leveraged them like I should (too lazy). Yeah, distortion can be anywhere, so thanks as you seem like someone who appreciates what hardware can really do (other than plinky-plank-plonk-plonk) .I obviously rock with Analogue but I've gravitated toward these Workstations (Phantom, MODX JDX, etc.) Yeah man, would love to collab. The last time I did was on a beat we sold to Radikal Tekkno I collab'd with these cats from Brussels while I rolled through. I named it "Tekkno Klub" but it go renamed at some point but it's out there. I was on another one I recorded here...but that is IT. It was like they had to pay me for some reason (I guess to prevent me from coming back if that beat ever kicked off). But shiii...music was never about money to me. It's always been about laying my sh*t down. I front-line, been featured in two documentaries all that ha ha. Real sh*t. I just stopped for like 25 years and came back. WOW. It's a scene man. Hit me up at PFNbeats@gmail.com and give me your thoughts on collab (what would you like me to do---it's yours, my brother). Otherwise, I'll post up something on KZbin and SoundCloud once I roll the beta version of the site out in a few weeks. But I appreciate being able to collab with someone like-minded. A lot of the "DAW-less" guys seem too fanatical (at the expense of their own music)...so as a long time-new comer there is an obvious balance that leverages your resources, of which there are minimal to no dependencies. My DAW is literally iMovie, but I understand the technology, so again, think about what you would like and I can deliver. Otherwise I get bored and if you listen to my beats from last week, I was hella putting 70's/80's sitcom beats at some ponit (Three's Company, Barney Miller, all that). Ha ha

@@YourFreeBeats Yeah the model D is awesome! One of the classic synths with a warm and fat sound. I am a big Moog fan, always have been, I'm looking to get either a Grandmother or a Matriarch one day, those I think are the closest modern equivalent. Haha, yes, I tend to be careful about going DAWless, I think DAWs are very powerful and I want to use them. But not everyone enjoys using a DAW so I understand the appeal for sure. I'll be sure to hit you up when I have the time man, thanks so much :) I'm super into techno, house, and acid music these days, trying to learn as much as I can about it, so if you had any ideas about that let me know. Using Ableton I have been able to generate some sick bass lines. You can email me at ddicely@gmail.com btw!

Even better is to use a tape echo unit because they use a loop and the tape will not run out. Generally more lo-fi. You just set the mix to output only the tape signal and not the dry signal so you don't hear an echo and you only hear the gritty tape.
