Brothers in Arms gets the headlines but Making Movies is the best Straits album IMHO.

I spent the last 5 months downloading and listening to every dire straits live bootleg I could find. What an incredible band. They started out as a rock band then morphed in to a rock n roll orchestra then on to an arena rock n roll orchestra band.

A band that has sadly disappeared off the radar. Very rarely hear anything about them these days despite their huge success in the 70s and 80s. Very unique sound. Great catalog of music

Making movies was an awesome album!!! Diplomat skins. I think John Bonham used those .....but on the bottom of the drum head. I think he used Ambassadors on the top. Drums sounded great though on this album. Rome and Juliet and Tunnel of Love are sooooooo good. Mark's playing is amazing and the addition of the keyboard really gave the band a little more sophisticated landscape of sound. Too bad about Mark and Dave but sibling rivalries can go deep. The comment about teachers is not far off. I just do open mics and club jams and even in that you can see how some people's personalities are very prickly. Some people have no sense of humour. I think the bands that stayed together a long time had a good sense of humour about themselves. RUSH was a good example. Deep Purple these days without Ritichie Blackmore sorry to say as well. I liked Ritchie but as he says ...him and Ian Gillan were both Alpha males so it was never going to work.
