When he came out on stage, his performance was top of the line music in the 70s. ❤

I just love Peter Frampton, a fine player and songwriter. I spent my childhood listening to Frampton Comes Alive then later on did a deeper dive. I discovered the studio version of All I Want To Be (Is By Your Side). The vibe is fantastic. It's really stony and goes deeper than the simple acoustic version on the live album. And of course, there is Humble Pie "Rockin' The Fillmore". He rips on that album. Very underrated player in my estimation.

I never did, because I heard it on the radio 24/7. But I did have his first two solo albums and he signed my original Frampton's Camel album!

Thanks Peter and VRP for such an interesting discussion of creativity, recording and the famous talk box of fame.

I don’t remember hearing anything from Peter Frampton solo material on the radio until the live album was released!

I usually tend to pick up on things which most otherwise ignore - like what makes a band tick. Maybe this is why I got good at bass. The drums start it all and Stanley Sheldon’s bass playing on this record is a sparkling attribute of what made it great. Especially speaking, on Do You Feel Like We Do. It’s just SO good…and played on Fretless Fender Precision Bass.

To think that the 2 greatest Rock concerts of the Rock era were performed at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco , just months apart , is to me unbelievably mind boggling ! Frampton Comes Alive and The Last Waltz ...The final concert by The Band where the cream of the 70's Rock world turned up to play and to wish them a fond farewell are the concerts and the rest is History as they say ! Music and musicianship of the finest grade possible , but only one was captured on film . Did the late Bill Graham film the Frampton concert for his personal collection I wonder , as he was famous for ? Someone must have some kind of film footage for Frampton Comes Alive .. surely ?

Peter Frampton’s use of the talk box was not groundbreaking. First of all, Joe Walsh was the guitarist who taught Frampton how to use the talk box. Joe had been using the talk box since late 1972. Jeff Beck was using a talk bag that he got from Stevie Wonder since 1973. The talk box and talk bag have different applications with the same result. Jeff used the talk bag in his group BBA. He would even speak to the audience with it. There are some much lesser named guitar players that were using the talk box even before Jeff and Joe and Stevie Wonder was using the talk bag with his keyboards in 1970.

Just because it wasn't the first doesn't mean it wasn't groundbreaking. People still hold Eddie Van Halen up as this groundbreaking tapping genius.. despite the fact itbhad been done by countless others previously.

FYI, This is NOT a true live album! The reason it sounds so good is BECAUSE Frampton did numerous over dubs in the studio to the original live taped recording that was pressed to the finished vinyl record sold in the stores! Just like KISS did on their so called live album. So let's STOP with greatest live album ever nonsense!

I always assumed it was entirely done in the studio with added crowd noise.

So what is it then? If it was even partly recorded live then its not a studio album. No one is saying ita a completely live album, just a live album. You sound like you need to get some issues out of your system.
