I'm new to your channel i loooove it a quick story. Mrs Eunice Johnson the wife of the founder of Ebony /Jet magazine would have a fashion show every year as a fundraiser. She would go to the fashion house to borrow clothes and was told no but she could buy them which she did. The shows were so popular that the fashion house started gifting/lending her clothes. I appreciate your transparency, Karen. You are truly one of the very best about it. I want to know what you got for free/PR and what you paid for yourself. I understand you will get PR, it’s your job and I’m so happy for you! I don’t like seeing other people showing $10,000-$20,000 hauls every week and saying they bought it when it’s really a company letting them pick items for free or items they’ll show as part of a brand deal that they have to return. When influencers are honest, I have no problem. I like seeing new items. I don’t like influencers who set wildly unrealistic lifestyle goals especially for young people who don’t understand what they’re seeing is unattainable unless you’re an influencer or extremely wealthy.

I have appreciated your content for years. We live in an age of extraordinary inequality and it can create a lot of cognitive dissonance to see so many people homeless and struggling on the streets of NYC but know that some of us have so so much more than we need. There is no reason for people to be nasty to you or any other content creator, of course. I think a lot of content creators are struggling with whether they should publicly acknowledge all the poverty, violence, exploitation, premature death and general immiseration being experienced by the global majority. I see a lot of comments here to the effect of "block the haters" which, yes, of course. But I think there is something underneath some of the "hater" comments that is important and maybe not as simple as these comments suggest. I myself have had a hard time consuming fashion content that doesn't acknowledge the reality in which we live. While there is no perfectly ethical consumption under capitalism I think it is valuable to consider what and how much we consume and how we can work toward a future in which we can ALL have our needs met and enjoy beautiful, high quality things without exploiting the earth or each other. I understand that this is not what your channel is about, but the context in which we all consume your content is going to inform how we react to it/understand it.
