A happy fathers day to all the wonderful dads out there.
Today we will be making a recipe requested by multiple viewers - mealie rice biryani with middle cut tinned fish. This one is a longer recipe but definitely worth it!
Ingredients
2 cups mealie rice, soaked overnight
1 heaped tsp margarine
1/2 tsp rough salt
1/2 tsp hurdee (tumeric) powder
For braising
1 can lucky star middle cut tinned fish
1/2 cup oil
1 onion grated
2 sticks of cinnamon
curry leaves
fresh thyme
4 cloves garlic, crushed
2 green chillies - adjust to taste
1 tsp rough salt - adjust to taste
2 tbs mixed masala
1/2 tsp hurdee (tumeric) powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp dhania jeera powder
1 tsp roasted and ground whole spices inc. saunf (fennel), jeera, dhania seeds, elaichi
2 med tomatoes, grated
1/2 cup biryani (masoor) dhal, soaked overnight
1/2 cup frozen peas
splash of lemon juice
2 onions fried
dhania, spring onion and mint to garnish
Serve hot with dhal and salad. Add boiled eggs for that little extra touch!
