Making Metem/Metemgee/grand collaboration representing Guyanese African Culture ❤️🇬🇾

Ingredients
2 ripe plantains
3 eddoes/taro
1 sweet potato
4 pieces of cassava
1 freshly squeezed coconut milk (can milk can be used too)
2 onions finely chopped
4 heads of green onions finely chopped
3 mari wirrie peppers finely chopped
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 handful of salted cod fish (optional)
Few pieces of grey snapper (any fish of your choice can be added)
Preparation
In a wide pot
Add 1 tsp coconut oil
Add chopped onions and pepper and cook for 2 minutes
Peel and wash all provisions (plantains, eddoes and sweet potatoes)
Add all provisions to the pot and mix well
Add salt and black pepper and mix
Add thyme
Add coconut milk and green onions
Cover and cook on medium heat
Fish preparation
Wash and seasoned fish with green seasoning (garlic, green onions,thyme and pepper)
Add 1/2 tsp salt
Add 1/2 tsp black pepper
Slightly dust the fish in flour
In a pan with hot oil add the fish and cook until golden brown on all sides
Drain and set aside to add to the dish.
Dumpling preparation
In a bowl with 3/4 cup of flour
Add 1/4 tsp baking powder
Add 1 tbsp brown sugar
Add 2 tsp butter
Mix well and add room temperature water and knead to a firm dough
Make small pieces and roll to 2 inches long
Add to the pot of Metem and cook for 5 minutes
Add fried fish on top and serve

What a wonderful representation of the African culture and one if their national dish. You just didn't showcased the food but the fact that you have given a great historical background of the culture is also very interesting and educational. That's an amazing way to get others to be able to understand the history and the importance of it in our Guyanaese culture. It's a very nice gesture that you have also wore and displayed the cultural clothing and jewelry. The methem is looking spectacular. Very nice again how you have explained the steps and showed the ingredients they use in the dish. Its indeed a beautiful dish. Yes, Guyana is a unique place. All races living in harmony and as one. I don't think that is Guyanese sweet potatoes, the skin has a little more red skin, that sweet potato is the oriental sweet potato (Chinese sweet potato) i normally buy at the chinese market it has less starch. Always enjoy your cooking.
