Use cat litter or rice to measure your volume of mold star needed. I'll set everything up like im ready to pour, but fill my mold box up (with your casting object inside your mold box, of course ha!) with dry material like rice or cat litter.. then dump out and measure. Now you have the exact amount needed so there's no o waste or hectic 2nd pours! Save the dry material for next time! Cowabunga dudes!

Wow, that's a really big custom mold! Wanted to add an extra thought, the final board looks great!
@gaminggeek2418 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the bigger the mold, the less casts you have to make and I'm all about that.

Quit doubting yourself you a-hole. You can do anything, literally anything better than the next guy or gal. But you have to get out there and DO IT. And do it, and do it some more.. guarantee you will bypass 80‰ of the crowd if you keep it up, you savage! Now get!.. go on!! Yauh! Shamalamadingdong!

Try using Tyvek instead of wax paper, it doesn't stick to epoxy resins like wax paper. Great video, I'm using Mold Star 30 for custom knife scales, this video was very helpful.

I think you did a great job .....the only thing I would suggest is the use of measuring cups glass if you can and a spatula the molding will pull out of the glass no problem and there no guessing on the needed quantity.
@Uleidiarmad8 жыл бұрын
Very nice job sir. if it don't put you to too much inconvenience I'd like to know how much mold star 30 have you used in total . Beautiful scenography indeed. Congratulations!
@gaminggeek2418 жыл бұрын
I used the whole trial kit which is about two cups worth for this mold. You have to just guess about how much you need depending on the size of your master.

thank you for the instructions. this is awesome. i am wondering what would be the best way to cast these pieces with tiny magnets embedded in the bases?>
@Vesdus4 жыл бұрын
I'd probably suggest cutting into the bases and gluing in the magnets after the model cures instead. It's a little more work, but it's a lot more precise.

is that 2 part Polyurethane resin you were using and if so how many casts did you get before having to remake the mold?
@Painfulwhale3602 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. In your experience does mold star 30 tend to tear easily or no? Also, have you casted concrete in it? I'm wondering how many times you can cast concrete before it degrades
@gaminggeek2412 жыл бұрын
It doesn't tear easily and is quite resilient. I didn't poor concrete but I did do 2-part resin which does degrade the mold--I was able to get about fifty pours in it so I imagine concrete would be about the same.

Would a make up brush help for spreading powder? Btw would you recommend using baby powder when casting plaster?

I love this! My son and I are planning on reproducing your great tutorial as a summer project, but we're brand new to using molds. If I understand it right, you made an initial copy of the Hirst Arts mold in the pink color, and then made this larger copy based upon the walls you made from that pink mold. My question is, in order to make that initial pink copy of the Hirst Arts mold, did you make plastic walls using the original Hirst Arts mold, knowing that the plastic, as you said, might damage the original Hirst Arts?

When did you switch from dental plaster to plastic?
@gaminggeek2418 жыл бұрын
I still mostly cast in plaster (hydrostone). I'm casting in plastic here because I know I'll be carting this game around a lot and didn't want to worry about the pieces breaking. I can just throw them in a bag and not worry about them.

@gaminggeek2414 жыл бұрын
I can't remember but I think it has to do with the "hardness" of the mold.
