I guess you could pull it out early, while it is still soft, and twist it , press it in, warp the panels, disfigure it, simulating a car that was wrecked. Pretty neat. Great video.

I'd like to try it on a 3' section of flex track. Cast a couple of sections to simulate yard track, with dips, bumps, uneven rail zigzag, like some of the yards had in the 1980's, Like Rock Island and ICG had when standing derailments were common. I know it wouldn't be powered, so placed damaged cars or the mow wreck train cars on it.

you can also buy a die cast car and hit it with a hammer. same results!

Could you also 3D print your model, mold it, and then cast your mold?

How did you mold those steps and supports on the ends of the car? It seems that you won’t be able to remove those from the mold.

Wonder how difficult it would be to replicate tyco’ sir Revell’s operating coal hoppers. May need to get some.
@retr0bits5453 жыл бұрын
I like the premiss but the problem with it being so light is that you would have to weigh it down. Personally I would like to try and do live coal loads when I make my layout soon.

Great video! I have a plastic box I need to mold with a weird geometry, I'll try to describe it in detail so someone can tell me if this method could be used. The object is a cube, around 3cmX3cmX3cm. Said cube is hollow and its bottom face is a separate part fastened by screws. The top face of this cube has a circular opening in its center (about 1cm in diameter) and each side has slots that go from the very bottom to about the middle point of the sides. Can I use this method to create a mold for it? In a video I saw of the casting for a scale model car's body the inside part of the master was completely filled with clay, should I do this instead?

When you mix the mold components you did not vacuum the material? Is that not required due to size or the material itself? I would like to try this with n scale oar jennies and mold 4 in one mold...

I looked up the materials you describe here in the video, and, it doesn't list "MOLD STAR", in your catalog. I would like to use this method to make 5 bay ortner cars. I refuse to spend $45 to $65 for one car. I'll make my own first. Thanks!!! Taz...

Can you color this casting material with paints such as Floquil Solvent Paint or Testors Enamel Paints? This would allow casting in the exact appropriate color, in theory, requiring no top coat of paint.

It is best to use a pigment or colorant designed specifically for urethanes so that no chemical reaction occurs

How can you cast a train car if it has windows?
@ReynoldsamPlus6 жыл бұрын
You can use tape on the inside to keep the material from flowing through.

Thank you!
@anfasharchive32446 жыл бұрын
Using the method shown in the video, you actually wouldn't need to tape anything. The small steps and framing at the bottom of the hopper are effectively windows, they have material in a frame with a hole in the middle. If you follow the same steps used here you should be fine. The glass of course would be modeled by another material. I use any hard thin clear plastic. Just be sure not to use any harsh glues like super glue when putting the windows in because they WILL fog up your windows. So unless you're looking for that "frosted" look, just use a dab of elmers glue and let it dry thoroughly.

@@anfasharchive3244 You could also use their "Crystal Clear" line of resin for new windows.
