I know higher platformed soles also have holes and inner structures to support weight to not be as heavy as a solid piece, would the rubber material you chose be able to do the same?
@ryancarney111
@ryancarney111 Жыл бұрын
thanks! Yes i believe that with this method of using silicone as the mold you can get away with some small undercuts/ engravings into the side. And also yes with this method you can create internal latus structures to reduce weight for thicker soled designs. The key thing for demolding though is to have a pressurized air hose.
@whyldthing86

Don’t make the “holes” square…perhaps a trapezoidal shape will make it easier to de-mold.

Cool video tutorial. Hey Ryan, are you able to create soles similar to the soft memory foam soles that Sketchers use? I believe those are made of " low density polyurethane". I really wanted to replace worn-out soles with it.
@ryancarney111
@ryancarney111 11 ай бұрын
you probably can but you would need to consider the expansion pressure from the foam and its effects on the mold your using. since silicone stretches a bit the urethane foam could warp the mold and ruin your final product. I would maybe consider making you silicone mold in a rectangular block shape and then using hard sheets of wood or metal to completely box in the silicone mold to prevent any warpage from foam expansion.

this equipment is relatively cheap. if i were to purchase everything for brand new top of the line quality i could be up and running with like $5,000. hardest part is air ventilation and atmosphere control. its low volume because a silicone mold like this will only last for 100 - 200 castings probably. eventually it would wear out. and is also much slower than an injection mounding system

So on the 0:32 mark of the video, I see that you placed it on a bed of clay here. My questions are: What's the black rim around the sole called and what's its purpose? What material was used to create "the box"? What was the purpose of the 3 thin sticks at the top of the outsole? I get the clay spout opening, but I was curious about the sticks.
@ryancarney111
@ryancarney111 Жыл бұрын
Hey the clay I used is a sulfur free plasticine. The material used to make the box is made of a styrene sheet 2mm thickness, the rim around the sole is used to create a parting line. the sticks create ventilation for the final castings.
@seekertosecrets7618

Yea you could get sheet of high density EVA foam and sheet of rubber tread for resoling outsoles and some glue. Other than that you could print it with a SLA 3D printer but there a inherent issues with it typically so the design of the outsole would need to take into consideration the restraints of the material/ printer and so on

Is the gas chamber necessary?
@ryancarney111
@ryancarney111 7 ай бұрын
Its a "de-gassing" chamber. It removes all the air within the glass dome, causing all the air bubbles to be removed from the silicone as well. If you don't remove the millions of tiny air bubbles caused from mixing the part A and part B, there's a good chance they will appear in you final mold once the silicone cures. This will cause imperfections in your final parts, which obviously isn't good. There are ways to pour silicone to reduce the chance of air bubbles but its not a guarantee.
