I agree. The stress of driving on unfamiliar highways takes a toll on one's body, even when one loves to drive. San Francisco will be there, whether it takes you 3 days or a week or more to get there. No, the San Andreas Fault hasn't ruptured yet.

If you want a Nice, easy, beautiful drive over the Rocky Mountains, head north to Ft. Collins from Denver. West through the Poudre Canyon over Cameron Pass (still has snow) to Walden. And then highway 40 over Rabbit Ears Pass to Steamboat Springs.

The sneezing is because the vagus nerve gets tripped up! It gets a little overloaded when something too big is coming in and sometimes going out! Kind of a weird misfire like hiccups. It might be exacerbated by all the sitting you're stuck doing while also having a lot of large meals, the food isn't moving on very quickly, so you're getting maybe more full than usual. Wouldn't hurt to run it by a doctor during your next annual physical to make sure it isn't related to damage of some kind. I have a damaged nerve, and I try to manage it, but every now and then I think "Just one more bite of this amazing-" and then I sneeze and sneeze and sneeze!

My brother sneezes when he's full. It's because the neurological path of the nerve where the stomach tells the brain you're full is close to the sneezing nerves.

You should've gone thru Memphis into TX and hopped onto I-10 east of El Paso or stayed on I-40. Great bbq in Memphis, great Mexican in TX and other goodies in the southwest. Doubt there's many tasty eats once you pass Denver. Also you must've gone to Joe's at some weird hour of day cuz the last time I was there, the line stretched out the restaurant and around the corner.
