Making my own Kuretake Gansai Tambi muted colours palette (based on the Art Nouveau set)

As the Kuretake Gansai Tambi Art Nouveau set seemed to be unavailable pretty much everywhere in December/January - especially here in the UK - I decided to buy individual pans of gansai paints and put together my own set of muted colours! I ordered mine from www.buddlycraf... (not an affiliate link!). I chose quite a few of the paints found in the Art Nouveau set, left out some of the colours that didn't appeal to me as much, and added a few of my own. In this video I'll swatch them all, and I'll show you the repurposed tin I'm using as a palette to store them in.

Patty-I have most of those colors. The only ones I don't have are the ones from Choosing Keeping. I love these paints. I'm not a professional, so I don't have special work to guide me through different color pallettes. I'm still trying to find my style. I'm glad you love the colors in your selections. Lucky you! I also couldn’t get my hands on the Art Nouveau set and so ordered the whole set individually from Buddley plus another handful or 2 of gorgeous colors, but it never arrived, 2 months later, i had to request a refund. Disappointed, i found the art nouveau on Amazon! Yay! The stars aligned! Sometimes they do! I love your collection, and your pebbles!!

I've been eyeing the art nouveau set for a while now, it does have some beautiful colors. I think it'd be so cool to see you collaborate with a paint maker to make a curated paint set. I'm sure there's a lot of work that goes into something like that, but I'm also sure it would sell out super quick. You have a good instinct when it comes to colors and how they work with each other. Like you, I loved the colours in the art nouveau set as soon as I saw them, and it was a must buy as soon as it came back in stock. I have used this tin for pallete, I have used double sided tape 3M (the black ) but you can use a magnetic sheet to stick them, I am currently making an empty tin of 72 pencils into a 60 full pan/120 half pan pallete but with a wood base to strengthen the tin, they are a bit flexy.

I wouldn’t want all of these colours but I think there are some really beautiful colours, I love the Mars yellow and the darker greens and blues and that gorgeous dark red, I forget what it was called! I have a small gansai box of primaries and a gold, I might swap those out and use the box, as I have another plan for them anyway. I will keep the gold it is lovely, the box is really pretty though. Loved your paint out, some of those colours look so beautiful and rich. It is a good idea to choose your own, my main set of gansai colours has a lot of reds and yellows far more than I will use.

I love the idea of pulling together you own pallet. I transferred my small Kuretake Gansai set to a Prismacolor colored pencil tin. Then I primed the tin with ground and painted swatches of the colors on top. I love the box they come in but I don't read Japanese!

Beautiful color selections. I bought the Kuretake set of graphite watercolor from Jetpens and I love them. There are a total of six as far as I know (that's what came in my set). They are wonderful to paint with.

I've made it through the first month of my no buy year, and the art nouveau set is haunting me already!! I couldn't get it last year, but it's available this year around here. Flax Beige and Green Gold seemed to have a faded look when dry. - However, I do love these paints! I have all the golds, silver, black and bronze etc… And I picked up some other colours too. - 💥 I found packages of 6 colours for $2.00 at a Dollar Store. LOL!! you can also make the sets that "Choosing Keeping" out of England. They have 4 sets based on decades that I realized would be much cheaper if you bought the individual pans from Kuretake. simply put its all about branding.

It is still impossible to order the set fom anywhere in the UK. You can get them on Amazon USA and from Kuretakre's own we site, but shipping costs fromthese sites makes he set too expensive. But I also use Buddltrafts myself to buy these paints a they are one of the very few UK sites that seell the pans individually. So I did the same an purcased all 24 colours from them to create my version of the orginal set. I love the Gansia paints and they are prefect for mixed media work,and arepartculalry god with coloured pencils. I love the colours you added. The whole palette of colours you have put together could work for different seasons in your lanscape paintings and for your night landsdcape paintings too. I think because it was the first time Kuretak had released totally new colours for a while,so everybody rushed to get them and the set became very popular very quickly and sold out. I did get all 24 of the colours in the set and added some additional colours as well. Your pebble swatching definitly shows of the colours so well as well. Look forward to seeing artwork that you create with these stunning paints.(matt)

I fell in love with the Graphite Color set, so I bought a 6.00 jar of Gamblin mars black powder pigment and mixed it in with my tube colors and they are so beautiful! -With the added benefit of them now being wonderfully granulating. I have so much fun playing with them! ❤

as soon as I saw the Billiard Green at the beginning of the video, I thought, "oh, that one is a NO." I didn't even see the other colours because that one was just offended me (haha). I've got the graphite set in my wishlist - apparently if you burnish or "polish" them with the back of a spoon once they dry, THEN you can see the graphite lustre.

I have this set. Actually, I have all their colors. I really do have full set syndrome. 😂 I want to let you know that the Alizarin Crimson is not a bright red. In fact, it is very muted. Like a muted wine color. The Mauve Taupe is really nice too. The are six graphite colors in all. The four you don't have are: 240 yellow, 230 red, 261 Violet, and 270 brown. They're all beautiful.❤️

Natasha, I looked up the graphite colors on my local art supply store Blicks. They say you can polish to reveal a metallic shine! 😮 “This set includes six colors that dry to a matte, smoky, graphite-like finish. Once completely dry, they can be lightly polished to reveal a metallic shine. Colors include Graphite Red, Graphite Yellow, Graphite Green, Graphite Blue, Graphite Violet, and Graphite Brown.”
