It strikes me that the operations involved for this structure in the home shop are quite different from the real life article. The original would have started as a forging(or casting) which determines the general form of the part, leaving minimal machining to bring it to specification. Nevertheless one has to start somewhere (usually the beginning), and tolerate the waste of material involved when you start with stock from the shelf. Grand effort none the less. Stavros
