Fun fact: ninja stars were not traditionally used as throwing weapons. They were primarily used as stabbing weapons, with the shape making them easy to conceal in the palm of the hand.
@beans19111 күн бұрын
That doesn't make any sense because all sides are sharp and if you just hold it in your hand and stab someone it would stab your hand
@ElectromagNick10 күн бұрын
@@beans191Depending on the shape, not necessarily. A four-pointed star, the classic shuriken, was often just very pointy but not otherwise bladed, allowing for use as essentially a punch dagger, easily concealed within a sleeve. It's a stabbing tool, not a slashing weapon. It's shape also means that it wouldn't matter so much how it ended up in your hand, just so long as you could quickly grip it. Beyond that, they make excellent distraction tools when thrown, to either close the distance or escape and evade.

Obsidian doesn't work well when it's formed into a blade, remember, obsidian is just lava glass, a hard impact shatters it, just a wooden shield would break the blade apart, it's better off as a spearhead

@@Thispersonisreal May I direct your attention to the wonderful weapon known as the macuahuitl. It's basically a stone-age sword and looked like a wooden bat edged in obsidian blades. It could easily dismember or decapitate a person, and was said to even be able to decapitate a horse
@awareqwx7 ай бұрын
@Dembagamer Right tool for the right job. The wooden handle can easily hold up to the stress of combat, and the obsidian is only used in the cutting edge where it is mostly protected from damage. If any of the flakes broke it was also relatively easy to pull them out and replace them with new ones.

I've touched obsidian before so I was SO nervous seeing you work with it with your bare hands For those who don't know, if you're not really careful when touching obsidian you can get a bunch of tiny cuts that you won't even notice until later. Pressing against a sharp edge would take a substantial amount of force to actually cut. It is sliding against the edge that produces the cut with the least force. That's why there are medieval treatises on the art of grabbing your weapon's blade and swinging when you need to shorten your reach, for example, in a confined space. So the pressure he applied to the edges of the obsidian would not be enough to worry. Of course, you shouldn't try this
