During the painting @ the 13:54 mark, you can see the black is into the white letters somewhat, are you saying that simple water can wipe this clean without effecting the white? I'm a bit nervous about this painting detail. Never learned to stay in the lines in kindergarten :-)

Yes, if the white paint is completely dry the black will wipe off easily with a damp cloth.

I will add that in my production list. I used the rasper in the Army logo. This process makes the bit do its clearing pass along the x axis or the y axis rather than following the overall shape of the carve.

@@PawPawsWorkShop I guess my question is how did you determine the placement of the logo? I build quite a few of these and here lately I have butchered quite a bit of lumber trying to get the different logos within the union. Have you did a video on this and if so would like the link so I can go view to get a better understanding. Thanks for the quick response.

Use the center point of the logo as the starting point and measure the size of your logo. Are you placing the logo into the computer program with the stars and removing the necessary stars?

Hi Paw Paw, I love watching your videos. I have an X Carve 1000...I’ve tried carving stars using your file but I’m having a problem with the stars not being the same size. Can you give me some advice or tips to fix the problem? Thank you
@PawPawsWorkShop
@PawPawsWorkShop 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. First, I know that the file is correct for two reasons, one, I have used it many many times and two, many others have used it as well. Therefore, the problem is going to be either the board is bowed or cupped or the thickness varies. The other possibility is that the machine needs to be calibrated. You must have a flat waste board and it must be parallel to the gantry in both the x and y axis. Check also the see that the gantry is square to the waste board. The bit must is precisely 90 degrees to the waste board. You can also skim the board to flatten it if needed. Please let me know how it is going after checking out your machine and material.
@Savannahburnley

Paw Paw’s WorkShop Thank you for taking the time to respond. After reading your reply I took a closer look at my material and you were right was bowed. I also noticed the table I have machine on was not completely flat. I took care of those 2 problems and it seemed to work. Thank you again for the help.

For a larger logo like this one, going on the stripes that are made of different strips of wood, how important is that they are completely level? I'm getting ready to carve the POW symbol into a similar size and build flag (19x37, made up of 1.5 inch strips) and I do not have a planer. I will clamp them together and make them as even as possible. Just not sure if it is as important as when you do the stars, considering the stars come out differently if the surface is a different depth and its noticeable since they sit next to each other where as one big logo, carved say .20 inches down would all blend more?
@PawPawsWorkShop
@PawPawsWorkShop 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it needs to be flat. Use large flat bit and skim the area where the POW symbol will go. If it is not flat you will have many different depths and it will not give the look that you are looking for.

@PawPawsWorkShop

Yes, create a pocket the size and shape of your POW logo and skim about 2mm or until flat. Then move to your POW work piece and setup and carve on a totally flat surface.

I have learned many things from your videos, thank you! My question is...what length are the Union strips? The stripes are 37".
@PawPawsWorkShop
@PawPawsWorkShop 4 жыл бұрын
The union is 10x13 therefore the stripes are 24" I do not measure. I set my stop block to 37" and cut the stripes. Then, I put the union into the stop block and put the stripe next to the union. It gives a perfect cut with only measuring once. Saves a lot of time and less chance for error.

Can you explain a bit more on the specifics of ripping those 2 x 4s? Or do you have a video on it? I'm not seeing exactly how you do it. Thanks.
@PawPawsWorkShop
@PawPawsWorkShop 5 жыл бұрын
ShoHashi . 1.cut 2x4s to length. (37”). Resaw to split in half as shown. You will get a slight variation in thickness thus the planer. 2. At the table saw cut all strips to 1 1/2” wide. Not sure what you are asking about. Although quickly shown in the video, all steps are covered. What specific questions do you have?
@ShoHashi
@ShoHashi 5 жыл бұрын
I'm more interested in how you rip those 2x4s. It almost looks like you run it through the tablesaw to get the cut halfway through, the flip it to get the other half. Is that what you are doing? And how thick are you making them? Thanks!
@ShoHashi
@ShoHashi 5 жыл бұрын
Also, couldn't you just rip the 2 x 4s horizontally to get more pieces? Just curious. :) Wouldn't that be a bit safer? Again, not trying to tell you what to do, I just want to hear you out. :)
@PawPawsWorkShop
@PawPawsWorkShop 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's exactly what I am doing. I want to cut just over half way through then flip it over and cut the remainder. I am getting four pieces out of each section of 2x4. The thickness is just under 3/4".
@PawPawsWorkShop
@PawPawsWorkShop 5 жыл бұрын
I will still get the same number of pieces out of each section of 2x4. I feel very comfortable doing it this way. However, as I have said many times, if you do not feel safe about a procedure, STOP and find a better and safer way for you! Anytime that you resaw lumber, you must plan every step to be safe. Multiple cuts can pose a higher risk factor. If you feel uncomfortable with this process, please do not do it and purchase wood that is already 3/4" thick. SAFETY FIRST! I appreciate the comment and questions.

The stars in this video were done using VCarve Desktop. The toolpath is much different than the toolpath in Easel doing the same stars. Five minutes using the gcode from VCarve Desktop and approximately 25 minutes to do the same carve when designed in Easel.

The stars were created using VCarve Desktop. I have a video that shows how I did it. In this video I show that the gcode sent to Easel can not be altered. What works for my CNC may or may not work for yours. It would be irresponsible for me to offer a file that could potentially cause damage. Take the opportunity to create your own stars. It's not that hard.

I am currently trying to make a flag with my 2 grand daughters for their other grand parents for an Xmas gift. Any help would be appreciated.

I have answered this question before but it is not wise to every share gcode file. The reason is that what will work on my machine may not work on yours and potentially cause a lot of damage. You can not make any changes to the file. You can create the same stars in Easel. Set up you material size the size of the blue field and use the star app in easel to create the star. Then it is just a matter of coping and pasting the stars. Once you create the first two rows, you can copy and paste the rows and your done. Ready to carve. Hope this helps
