I think that I speak for everyone here that in terms of the series, we are absolutely fine with quality over quantity. Take your time, do what you want to do, and try not to feel pressured by anyone here. The fact that right now there’s 1.3 K likes and 0 dislikes should tell you that regardless of the process or the amount of time before another video, we’ll still be happy. If you really feel that the series is taking a serious toll on you, take a break! Just be safe, okay? Not for our sake, but for your own.

Exactly! If it means we get an animation that is built on both quality and time that wasn't rushed or forced with a deadline, we'd choose that rather than one that is rushed with plot holes and lesser qualities. David, you aren't a corporate company but an individual whose animation is made directly from the heart with a will more free than most animators out there. Though it be nice if you got some help, we wouldn't want you to tire yourself out. Your health is important, I hope you keep that in mind.

@nazrarain14523 жыл бұрын
@Joseph Douek I tend to avoid "If only" and "hopeless" stories of any type because they frustrate me. It feels like the whole story builds up just to say "Hey, it doesn't matter what just happened in this story." I think the reason I like this story is that it doesn't feel like David is trying to tell the story of people who tried to break the cycle but failed. It feels like a narrative that tries to make us empathize with everyone instead of push an idea that breaks when the dystopian situation overcomes it
@nazrarain14523 жыл бұрын
@Joseph Douek I was trying to say that they give me the same feeling, as, in one, it feels like the story is pointless, and, in the other, you often see the way the characters could have fixed something but never did. This story has an air of mystery where you can theorize about what may have worked, but you'll never know
@Rehvengethedragon3 жыл бұрын
Part of what makes this world so interesting to me is that this is a world where the people are actually really happy. A lot of dystopian stuff is about rebelling because the people see the cracks and it's kind of interesting to view a world where the people don't see anything wrong with what's going on.

@@anikbiswas4447 Currently... nothing (lol). I'm in the process of learning 3D modelling and whatnot, but for the time being I'm teaching myself SFM (to get a feel for animating characters, lighting, camera angles, etc.) and also Blender (modelling, rigging, etc.). I'm just going to start out with little shorts or rough sketches to see if I can build a small following that way, as well as OC's for various series. That being said, I have wanted to work on a Destiny related animated series using its lore as the foundation of the series; exploring the different stories of its universe as they haven't appeared in-game. From there, I'll work on something completely original, and my end goal is to form a production company so I can continue my ventures for the pleasure of myself and viewers (RT and SMG4 are massive inspirations for this choice).

Seriously all of this. When I heard him say he hated this project, it broke my heart. I've felt so inspired and really impressed with the work he's done, it just felt like a stab in the gut from a fellow artist. When you start hating your creation, stop. Walk away. Return when you feel that's the last thing you've thought about. It usually helps to stop and go "Okay, I need a break." and go watch TV or play a game, or just... go for a walk, like he did at the end of this. At the end of the day, your 'work,' your passion, will always return. It just needs to recharge just like you do after a day of staying up or going hours without food.

Every artist reaches a “burnt out” stage many times in their career. But they take their deserved rest and eventually need to fulfill that emptiness that comes when they abandon their talent. It’s ok to take a break. It’s ok for anyone to be overwhelmed and take a break right now. A lot of us deserve a breath. (Mask wearing pun intended.) I just want to say, though, I disagree with a once great artist who said, “It’s better to burn out than fade away.” Sometimes it’s better to keep “inventing” as long as you can. It’s beautiful, sad and human.
@skeetsmcgrew32823 жыл бұрын
I believe that quote was more meant for the artist's legacy than actually suggesting its better to burn out. Many many burn outs are remembered in nearly god-like lights. Hendrix, Morrison, Cobain. And then there are those that "faded away." Metallica, Michael Jackson, um like every artist from the 80s actually. I doubt Sammy Hagar would rather have died than been in a band that became kind of a joke in the 90s. But had he died tragically, who knows how people would feel about him

The helper goblins form a massive place in the story that few authors understand, and you might not; _Open-ended worldbuilding._ Adding goblins in the wires, or more towns like autodale but ruined, or whale-like skeletons circling in a tunnel; these things do not directly move a story along, and you might never explain them fully if the story does not need to later, but they add a sense that the world isn't just what the story revolves around, that the world is lived-in and massive and _real._ This sense of openness and reality can do wonders for a story. Adding a vermin-like creature scurrying away beneath a monster's foot in the wilds would serve no plot purpose, (unless a child monster chases it to trouble or something,) but would expand the world just a bit, and make a dedicated reader all the more immersed and impressed by the story you are telling.

This is what J R R Tolkein did. His books were not his goal. By his own admission, designing a world mythology was his goal. His amazing books were almost side projects for him and explains why LOTR took so long to write after The Hobbit was published. They occurred within a world that really existed in his imagination. For most authors, on the other hand, world building is little more than an inconvenient job that needs to be done to make their story work.

the fact that youve been making this whole series almost entirely by yourself is just. awe-inspiring. Ive been following this series since, what, the second film? and seeing how far you've come after all of this has been incredible to witness. especially seeing how things in your previous works truly tie in. you absolutely deserve that break. you've come so far and now its time to rest. burnout has never done anyone any good. i do want to say that immortal machine was incredibly cathartic. nearly 5 years of work leading to this epic reveal of autodales truth. you, sir, are inspiring (also the depicted fall of the matriarch in one of the older drawings suddenly takes on a whole new meaning and I'm now Big Fear lmao)

You don't even need to "deserve" it to be allowed to take it. No one here expects you to be a machine. If you somehow end up reading this, from one 3D animator to another, I recognize how hard it is staying passionate about something when you've made your passion your job. Someone needs to give David a proper team so he doesn’t run himself into the ground
@Nolascana3 жыл бұрын
Easier said than done. It takes a lot of mental power to even attempt to hand something to somebody else. While I agree I also know principle editors that nearly completely burned out before theyd even consider letting somebody else help them... as they have a particular method... Also saw the sheer variance in rotoscoping images sent back to the key animator... he had to clean up so many he might as well have drawn all of the stills himself as it was just a nightmare keeping them consistent. Other teams I am positive dont have the same issues, but sometimes it's the willingness to take the risks. Also. Finances. Either way, a rest is good. Burnout is terrible for sure.
@Kiku913 жыл бұрын
He also said in another behind-the-scenes, that he prefers doing as much on his own as he can. So it would probably stress him out just as much, to have an extended team. I'm glad he is taking a break though.

You know, I don't think I even remember how I discovered this series, but I know it was back when it only had the first one, two episodes, I think. Back then, it just seemed like a short, strange animation, one of these "short dystopian films" that have a clear moral lesson or are supposed to teach you something. But I was wrong, and I think I've never been happier to be wrong in my life. Autodale was fresh, new, original. And now as you mentioned how much more there is to Autodale, all the films, all the sculptures, all the making of videos (which I enjoy watching nearly just as much as the animations), I truly realized just how far this series has come. It's incredible, because back when the first shorts were released, I would've never predicted that there would be so much more to come. What I'm trying to say is, I think I'm speaking for everyone when I say that you already exceeded any expectations we might have had. We'll all be very happy with whatever you're planning next, so don't feel pressured into doing something you don't want to work on. People are here because it's you who created these amazing stories, they're here for your ideas and your outstanding skills and passion you put into everything you do, no matter what it is. And I absolutely understand the frustration and fatigue you can feel when your beloved project doesn't bring you joy anymore, when you work on something for so long and so hard that you're beginning to hate it. So it's very good that you're taking a break, and focusing on other stuff. It's really needed, especially if you're planning on continuing Autodale's story in the future.

Today, he’s created such behemoths like Lucasfilm and ILM that help support him so he can focus on what he’s best at. Obviously Merry Madness, Immortal Machine, and Autodale itself have quickly become life consuming, just as the sense of duty involved begets something which has grown larger than oneself, even trumping one’s actual life. What a little additional investment into infrastructure wouldn’t do, to allow you to focus on what has brought us all here for: Your amazingly brilliant ideas. Cheers & Best Regards, SS
