When I watched the lion king back in ´95 I was about 9 years of age. I was totaly enchanted by the film. When Elton John´s song played at the end I was got hipnotised. Then I became a huge Elton John fan, and have been ever since! Cheers!

The wildebeest thing is a great example of Disney being a technological powerhouse. Today it's no problem at all to stick a flat texture onto a mesh and animate it, maybe add a toon shader, than smack an AI onto it so it has some behavior. You do't even have to make any of it, you can buy it. But they built it from the ground up and back then CGI like this was still novel, Jurassic Park was being produced at around the same time, and it would be a while before WETA would do similar things to their LOTR armies.

Hans Zimmer said that he had wanted to go to South Africa to record parts of the soundtrack, but was unable to visit the country as he had a police record there "for doing 'subversive' movies" after his work on The Power of One. Disney studio bosses expressed fears that Zimmer would be killed if he went to South Africa, so the recording of the choirs was organized during a visit by Lebo M.

It sure is. Hans Zimmer’s got the best job for music. And during the making of The Lion King, he and his fellow artists were using a full 55 piece orchestra, the tribe’s choir, and African instruments.
