In this video I show how I make a High Gloss Polishing Paste for wood turning. It could be used for flat work as well.
Link for How I make Abrasive Paste below.
This is for polishing only. It is not a sanding abrasive paste
See the link below for my abrasive paste.
I call it Papa's Polishing Paste or PPP Triple P
Very simple to make and very inexpensive.
It is best to use a soft paper towel to apply and buff out.
I also have a video for abrasive paste which I have been told works as well as some of the store bought products. I am thrifty so I have never bought any of the products like Yorkshire Grit or Hampshire Sheen.
Abrasive Paste video
• Make a simple Sanding ...
BE SURE TO ONLY USE FOOD SAFE INGREDIENTS IF YOU PLAN ON USING IT FOR FOOD USE. MY TURNINGS ARE NOT FOR FOOD USE
Looking for a good paste already made then I recommend trying the ACKS product.
I think it is the best product of this type I have tried.
I RECOMMEND ACKS PASTE AND IT IS FOOD SAFE

This also works well on end grain for your outdoor deck, stairs and so on. It really seals the end grain from water. Just brush it on while hot. I never thought to use it as a polish, will give it a go. Thanks for the video

Thank you Trent I really enjoy making what I can and have been playing around with some finishes. I mix my own wipe on poly. Basically thinning it down to what I like to use. I found I should only make a small batch because it gels up fast if it is not used right away. Thanks again, Gary

I guess I thought it would still have an abrasive in it, just finer than you used in the sanding paste. But, it sure works so that's the objective! Thanks Gary! Phil
@ThePapa1947
@ThePapa1947 5 жыл бұрын
Well that is a good thought. Extra Extra fine abrasive paste. And it still has the beeswax. For sure this is easier than using beeswax from a stick and rubbing against the bowl. I have never tried that and have never wanted to. It is fun to experiment....I think I was supposed to be a mad scientist...but in stead I ended up a Old Man. Thanks Phil, Gary

Here's an update so I did your mix but I added some rottenstone in it, boy what a shine, and if you use a felt pad it gives a higher shine. The finish I use is mohawk pre cat lacquer

Neither mineral oil or bees wax have a long lasting effect as a polish. I only use them on cutting boards that are to be cleaned and polished regularly. Have you tried using carnuba instead of bees wax in your mix?

Papa I’ve watched both videos you made about the sanding paste and polishing paste. Say Your doing a project, what makes you choose the PPP instead of the sanding paste and vs versa? Is it the material or the finish your trying for?
@ThePapa1947
@ThePapa1947 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Glen The abrasive paste has grit in it so it is like using ultra fine sand paper. It really levels the lacquer out. The PPP is like using a high luster wax. I hope this helps explain your question. If not let me know. Gary

Thanks very much Garry, very interesting for me, but I have a little question: mineral oil, is with Parafine? or vaseline? because in France it could be one or other (perhaps tha doesn't mater, but if yo had the chemical composition, thanks to tell me if you can. I wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy new year. JL 1947

Thank you very much JL 1947! So the mineral oil I use is what you can get at the drug store or grocery store. It is what some people take when they are a bit stopped up.. www.cvs.com/shop/cvs-health-mineral-oil-usp-lubricant-laxative-prodid-1011823?skuid=152355&WT.mc_id=ps_google_pla_152355&cgaa=QWxsb3dHb29nbGVUb0FjY2Vzc0NWU1BhZ2Vz That should help you see what it is. In the current state of our poor old World economies are essential. I do use one of Captain Eddie's finesse but widening the choice a little may well work for me. The whole World is will have lunatics in charge. I have my finger crossed on that one. I'm working through your splendid list on my phone now as a computer scamer wrecked the computer my family bought for me. I'm trying to trace a friend of mine that devoted a room in his home to attract scammers and passing the details to the authorities. All I know of him just now is he is high in the Scottish Highlands to minimise interference. He had some remarkable systems of his own design for his entrapment that was serving him we prior to his move. He has built search and kill equipment for a few of his colleagues. I wish him well. I'm still not out in my shed but I'm making plans and you methods siut my style. Thankyou.
