This turned out wonderfully. I actually liked the green. I think if someone were going for a rustic jewel tones Christmas colored theme, it would look great with a deep burgundy and a cream color hanger swirl. Question for you. (I'm so sorry I ask so many questions. :'( ) When do you put your Christmas soaps out? I'm new-ish so I'm trying to sort out how to plan these kind of holidays. Not that I'll ever sell but for family and friends, is it better to give them soaps at Thanksgiving or wait until Christmas, knowing that Christmas will be over as soon as midnight strikes on Christmas day?

So the lye discount and the goat milk, do you do half water in the lye and half milk?

I use equal parts water with lye, then the "extra liquid" volume in milk.

As always, I love your videos!! I have a fellow soapmaker question. When making milk soap, how on earth do you keep it from overheating and getting lye or oil pockets? I'm beyond frustrated. Your soaps all look so pretty and mine in my nice new slab mold..... ughhh. Worse than baby poop.
@EllenRuthSoap2 жыл бұрын
I’ve been doing the milk in oil method lately, and haven’t had any issues. A couple of helpful things are to soap at cooler temps and use a water discount…. Hope that helps 💕
@OklahomaJamie2 жыл бұрын
I will try that. Would you say 100 degrees, or lower? I had someone tell me 80-90. They’ve always worked in a loaf mold, but I got a slab mold and no bueno. Even straight to the freezer immediately.
@EllenRuthSoap2 жыл бұрын
@@OklahomaJamie I soap around 80

I still get confused when one says water discount. Let’s use an example of 100 g of water that you would mix with your lye. Did you take a portion of the 100 g of water as the goat milk and then left the remaining portion of “water” to mix with the lye?
@EllenRuthSoap10 ай бұрын
so for an example; your recipe calls for 100g of lye, you would mix it with 100g of water and use the rest of your liquid for the milk in oil method. Hope that makes sense.
@ericabeache2 жыл бұрын
How long does the mixed TD last in the bottle?
@EllenRuthSoap2 жыл бұрын
If you add a touch of preservative it will last several weeks. Without it, I would use in a couple of days. You can also premix oil soluble TD, and that's more stable
