Our hike this year was too long to justify taking the oven, but I have had the pleasure of indulging in one of these in the past! Looking forward to another backpacking trip with pizza sometime soon!

I have the Outback oven but have never used it. I think that I will after seeing your video. Just one question - why not use a canister stove?

Actually you can use a canister stove, but with it you must use what they call a Reflector Collar ... as mentioned at 0:52 in this video. The collar (a foldaway circular foil sheet with a hole in the middle) lays on top of your fuel canister and prevents the heat from going downwards from the stove back onto the fuel canister. At 1:42 of this video you'll notice that I'm using it, only it's on the table underneath my stove to protect the wood table from burning from the stove. I've had my stove (with the hose) for years and I like it because of its stability. Thanks for watching, rickrayn. Enjoy your Outback Oven!

@@jjinthemountains369 i'm a former employee of the company that made the outback oven. the reason it was discontinued was due to the potential danger of using the oven on any stove with an integral fuel tank, whether it is liquid or canister fuel. testing showed that even with a heat reflecting collar, the fuel source would become dangerously hot during a long cooking session and could potentially explode or at the least, result in a flare-up or fire. any manufacturer is liable for injury if the courts rule that a product is unsafe, so the manufacturer chose to discontinue the product rather than try to make it idiot-proof... the outback oven was designed at a time when liquid-fueled remote tank stoves were the most popular, reliable canister stoves didn't exist then so the outback oven was specifically designed to be used with stoves that have a remote fuel source connected by a hose.

@@marzsit9833 interesting comment, and that makes sense. With that cover over the pan, obviously a lot of heat is going to remain in that area and not dissipate, especially when baking a pizza for 15+ minutes. Glad I have my old WindPro stove. Thanks for the heads-up!
